The Shootist starring John Wayne (can't remember the other two to be honest).

James Stewart. I don't recall who else was in the cast as it's been near 30 years since I saw 'The Shootist'.

Yes, broken and MrT--you have two of the three. The other was Lauren Bacall (I don't think young Opie can be considered an icon). She played Bond Rogers, who puts JT Books up in one of the rooms of her boarding house. She is the recipient of one of my all time favorite lines in cinematic history, when JT Books (the Duke) tells her: "Mrs. Rogers, you have a fine color when you're on the scrap."

Good on you shawnbm. I can't believe I did not remember Miss Bacall (Bless her, she died a 4-6 months ago).
