Someone said on the news thread that Troicki was denied a WC. Not true, he is in.
And right from the get go, he has defeated Thiem: 7-5, 6-4.

At one time there was a rumor that this tournament is planning on shifting to Grass
and moving to a slot before Wimbledon. However, it remains the same way in the
calendar in 2015 also. I remember reading an article that was promulgating Gstaad
as "The Wimbledon of the Alps".

There is still one slot in the calendar for adding one more grass tourney to be
conducted in parallel with Nottingham on the week before Wimby.

Does anyone has any inside info on whether Gstaad has given up on its grass bid
or is still working on it slowly?

I can see them leaving that week to be honest. Nobody of note tends to play the week before slams anyway so it might be better to have just one tournament the week before Wimbledon so everyone that wants to play goes there and makes it a worthwhile tournament rather than diluting the talent between two tournaments resulting in two rather uninteresting events.

Another thing to be noted is that they changed the scheduling of DC in the 2015 calendar.
The first round happens in the week before IW and the quarter finals happens in the week
after Wimbledon (currently, the first round happens in the week after AO and the second
round happens in the week after Miami).

Traditionally, in the four weeks when DC is scheduled there will not be any other
tournament played. In 2015 also, that is the case for first round, semifinals and finals.
However, the Newport Grass tournament is played in the same week as the DC quarterfinals
in 2015. I think this is by way of punishing the Newport Grass tournament as the ATP did not
like the fact that Newport turned down their request to move it before the Wimbledon.

It would make much more sense if Newport was before Wimbledon and I can certainly see that being the reason not to have the DC ties in a separate week. However, it probably won't punish Newport all that much given that they barely managed to attract enough top 100 players to fill the seedings this year.

You are right that Newport is already a weak tournament. However, if you throw in DC
in the same week, it will become even weaker. For example Karlovic, Hewitt, Isner etc
who participated in this year's edition are serious DC players and will play in DC in preference
to Newport.

Also, you should realize that this is not just about the players in top 100. When
DC QF is being played, in the very same week many countries will be involved in a
regional tournament battle (DC has a completed relegation structure) to earn a berth
in the play off round which lets one enter the international group. So, many players
ranked outside of 100 also will be busy during the DC week.

I think this is a way by means of which ATP can armtwist Newport for agreeing to
switch to a spot before Wimbledon.

That's true yeah. Either way, it will hurt Newport, it was more of a throwaway comment from me about how crap their field tends to be.

Gstaad organisers said last friday that they denied Troicki a WC then they finally changed their mind !!
I thought ATP didn't authorized WC to banned players..

^ Well they treated Troicki in a completely unfair manner compared to Cilic so I personally think it's only fair. Cilic had a tiny silent ban for a few months and he actually tested positive. Troicki refused a test and got 18 months reduced to 12. They completely screwed him compared to Cilic.

And if he is now allowed to play, it means the ban is expired. So why not give a wc when there no other candidates. As far as I know, this year Roger was not interested to get another cow

Yes, the ban has expired. While Troiki won't be eligible for protected rankings (he
did not sit out due to injury), he is eligible for wild cards. However, tournaments
generally are little concerned in giving wild cards to banned players who are
coming back up (to protect their own reputations) independent of whether it
is fair or not.

^ He's had bad problems with his knee in the past so hopefully not that but it's the only thing I recall hearing trouble him in the past.
