Tournament Info
Tier: International
Prize Money: $226,750 Surface: Hard Director: Jeff Newman

The origins of the Citi Open date back to an ATP event that launched in 1969 as one of the first open professional tennis tournaments held in the United States. It has since featured some of the sport's most innovative changes, including blue courts, instant replay/video boards in the stadium, the main draw getting underway on Sunday and being part of the Emirates Airline US Open Series.

After the WTA held an event in College Park, Maryland, in 2011, the ATP and WTA staged a joint tournament in 2012 at the William H.G. Fitzgerald Tennis Center in the Rock Creek Park section of Washington, DC. Thus, various site upgrades were put in place, including a show court to accommodate both events.

Citi is a global financial services company with about 200 million customer accounts and does business in more than 160 countries and jurisdictions. The Citi Open is owned by and benefits the Washington Tennis & Education Foundation (WTEF), which seeks to improve life prospects for DC area youth.

As always - the last couple of years - Caroline is the main attraction in tournaments - also at CITI Open. Wonder when a player ranked #60 is drawing so much attention:

I don't think she should spend much time with Dmitrov...for all sorts of reasons.

Ebony Smooth lays an egg of gigantic proportions. As the defending champ she wins 3 games and is sent packing by an unknown in the first round. :cover I guess she didn't appreciate being relegated to Court 2 as the defending champ. :snicker

I am quite certain Kamau Murray is gonna loose his mind if this recent trend continues. This chick is a real head case . Is she still with Sock

It appears Sock and Sloane are no longer together. She is a headcase. Such amazing physical gifts, but can't gain consistency.

I saw the Woz match where she got injured. Hope she heals quickly and is ready for Rio.

Woz is on a train wreck. Since she reached USO finals in 2014, she is steadily going down, partly due to her game, partly due to injuries and partly due to extracurricular activities. The ship has definitely sailed for her to do anything meaningful in future.

where is lazy Scone...Venus and Serena have held the WTA afloat for years...most of their contemporaries are retired or banned from tennis..they are still there winning and keeping the tour relevant...at least the mediocre players like Keys Coco McHale and other gals are trying...Scone just seems disinterested..the way she lost to Sveta showed me that this girl is not a champion...the way she hugged Sveta like she was thanking her for beating her..
