Bethanie Mattek-Sands has surgery
Bethanie Mattek-Sands underwent hip surgery in New York on Monday, according to her agent Chuck Vine.
"We expect complete and full recovery," Vine said. "We can't put a timetable on it but she's already up and walking around."
It has been a tough stretch for Mattek-Sands. In 2013, the 29-year-old's season ended in September after sustaining a torn MCL.
The American lost to Maria Sharapova in the first round of the Australian Open this year, and last won a main draw match in Doha, which began on Feb. 10.
She is currently ranked No. 81 on tour.
Before the knee injury, Mattek-Sands was ranked in the 40s and poised to build on her success in the 2013 French Open, where she reached the Round of 16, and the Stuttgart semifinals. She had even suspended playing doubles in order to concentrate on her singles game.
Vine said Mattek-Sands had some discomfort in the hip that was inhibiting her movement and wanted to have it resolved. She also had hip surgery in 2008.
