As I was explaining to @PhiEaglesfan712 on another thread why we call Cilic "Cough Drop," and attributing it to @Kieran, I was also thinking of other coinages that are unique, I think, to the Frontier. In my opinion, Kieran and @kskate2 are the best at nicknames. But don't want to give anyone short shrift. I'm going to list some of my favorites. Feel free to add yours, and any attribution of who gets pride of coinage, if you can remember.

Cough Drop: Marin Cilic (pretty sure that was Kieran)
Ebony Smooth: Sloane Stevens (Kelli)
Babycakes: Matteo Berrettini (Kelli):smooch:
McFly: David Goffin (Kelli?)
F3 (The Fabulous Fabio Fognini): Fabio. (No memory of who started that one)
The Danish Angel: Holger Rune (Jelenafan)
Little Bit: Leylah Fernandez (AP?)
Silent K: Karen Khachanov (Not sure who gets the credit for that one, but it's pretty brilliant)
Rad the Impaler: Radek Stepanek (Kieran; this one came up again recently. A personal favorite of mine, for the complexity and pornography of it)

___________

I'm sure there are more, that are particular to us here at the Frontier. I left off some of the rude and obvious ones. I don't think any of the above ever hit the mainstream. My main point is...you're all so clever and funny! It makes it a pleasure to spend time with you.

That's a pretty good idea for a thread, but uffff.... not a fan of any of those... but that's just me.

The coment sessions of Brazilian tennis news sites are a good source of nicknames, mostly offensive: "strung underpants" and "cotton swab". I don't even need to tell whose nickname's they are...

Oh, that's just because you are willfully a hater. (Which I say with love.) Do tell: who is "strung underpants" and "cotton swab?"

Who came up with Serbian Slayer? Spanish Bull for Rafa was another good one.

Thanks Mox. Pretty good recollection. I cannot however take credit for Ebony Smooth. That was someone who doesn't post here anymore. A few others I've coined over the years:
- Cibby aka the Incredible C-Bulk
- McFail aka Christina McHale
- Uncle Sam aka Sam Querrey
- Nalby aka Nalbandian
- T-Berd aka Berdych
- Le Monf aka Monfils
- Chrissy's Daughter aka Muchova
- Screamalenka aka Sabalenka
- Dangerous One aka F Cerundolo

I'm sure there are others, but I can't think of them all now.

Of the recents, The Dangerous One is genius. Someone asked which Cerundolo was playing X opponent, and you said, "The Dangerous One," and it stuck.

I think Le Monf is universal, as in the French have always called him that. Did you coin it? Because that would be a good one that caught on.

Also @shawnbm, I think "Spanish Bull" was always universal, but who knows. Not sure who gets credit for Serbian Slayer, but that could be local to TF.

For sure Uncle Sam is yours, re: Querrey, which is also a great coinage.

I'm pretty sure McFly was yours, and that's a timeless classic.

Yes, McFly is an oldie but goodie I created. I think AP coined the Serbian Slayer.

I wish we could still see some of the old Tennis Frontier posts. Some of them were golden with nehmeth, MikeOne, that Cali guy and all the arguments about all kinds of things. There are others and I recall brother Kieran and tented and Owen and britbox, etc.

All of them since 2013 are on here mate. Maybe you're thinking of the old tennis.com posts - which were flat out crazy and hugely entertaining!

You may be right Owen. There were some fun ones back in the day when Roger was hunting down Pistol Pete and Nadal was setting records on clay and taking down Roger on that surface over and over.

Unfortunately tennis.com not only closed their discussion forum — they deleted it. A lot was lost.

I love the updated version of Sloane Stephens which is Scone,, that is from Tossip lol! I have used it myself at times when I am on one of her games and when she plays 'brainless' for example Scone has decided to show up today in her match!

I think Serbian Slayer was from "Clay Death".
I'd actually forgotten about Clay Death, and his name that preceded CD. I think you're right. He's also the one who first called you Baron Britbox, which is why we still call you Baron. He gave a lot of posters heraldic names, but yours is the only one that stuck. I can't even remember what mine was.

That was too bad. They had the premiere forum for tennis chat on the internet, but decided to let it go.
