I watched the first few seconds. A) It's February...it's dark here at 5am, and also there have been piles of snow on the ground for over 2 weeks, so, no, that's not real. B) I live near a mosque and no one is blasting the call to prayer. Nothing is different. (The corner the video showed is in Brooklyn and well-known...if I looked it up, I bet there's no mosque there.)

You can add music at any level onto video. Where'd you dig that chick up?
lol! My business partner sent it to me. Funnily enough the conversation started because Sadiq Khan our London mayor was encouraging Londoners to celebrate Ramadan. A lot of people here saying he doesn't invest as much time encouraging Christmas celebrations :D

Your friend is "all over this," but even he just sent you this article, which is 3 years old. Why is it taking so long for everyone to connect all of these dots? Seems very weird.
easy answer to that. He's been obsessed about the Epstein thing for some time. Not so much me, until more recently. It was appalling of course, but the fact that MAGA has been on it for so long and all of a sudden Trump is running away from it, has caught all of our attention. So I can't say the article is something that's recently come to his attention. I actually sent him your comment about the French guy and he hit me back with the article immediately.

@Moxie is this real?

I actually looked that up on Google, seems to be 99% fabricated. It is building up over a "controversy" that appears to have started in 2023 with some legislation change, and one (actually real) photograph of muslim people praying in the streets of NY. Legislation change in question do permit those calls to prayer, but not at 5:00 AM, and not all week. I guess even in some specific places, but that legislation did in fact broaden the scope of where those calls to prayer are allowed (but not by much). Theu audio on the video seems to be original, what is misleading is the hour of the day and the time of the year (as per @Moxie's post). And, much likely, it is either covered by the legislation above, or some one off.

As a million people said before me, those videos pray on people's fears, but what I like to add is that on one hand is natural that people are skeptical/afraid of change, and, second, people are entitled to chose to live close to other people who have a similar lifestyle/cultural background as their own. If that's been the case for generations in a given neighborhood/city and it suddenly changes, the reaction is only natural, and it is not fascist or xenophobic. My father, who is 50 years older than me, actually fought fascists in WWII, so I chuckle everytime I hear or read that word used in "vain".

Having said that, the optimist and conciliator in me (Dr Jekyll) cannot miss the fact that we (I mean the people who usually post in this thread) are extremely diverse regarding point of views and political positions, and we are still being able to actually debate, despite everything. Nowadays, this is definetely not a small thing. I know everyone knows that already, but still...

yup. I was a bit sceptical. My business partner is Jewish, and loves Trump specifically because of his stance on Israel. So I take some of the things he sends me with a pinch of salt. Hence my throwing it back to @Moxie to confirm or refute:)

PS, it's highly irritating but I owe him £1 for losing a bet on the last Presidential elections

Please tell him why I said it was so obvious a fake, and an attempt to scare people about Mamdani. I'm sure if I'd kept watching, there was also file footage of "Leningrad" somewhere.

I've been to England for Christmas, and same as in the US, it doesn't need a PR person, though Ramadan could use one. :face-with-tears-of-joy:

lol! Well I do all I can to avoid Christmas in the UK, so I can't say I care all that much. I want to be somewhere warm, and active generally speaking. I do have some sympathy with the state not involving itself in encouraging or discouraging interest in religious events. Let the people get on with it. Just my opinion. I'll gladly tell my business partner. He loves his special YouTube channels! :D

But in all seriousness he's not the only one who brings up that issue. It's a fairly popular complaint these days. Personally I just roll my eyes because when it comes to election time, Khan wins comfortably because turn out is so abysmal. I mean seriously! If folks disliked the guy that much, then actually make the effort to vote his a$$ out. I don't mind telling you, I would gladly see Bojo back as mayor. And before you ask, I can't vote for mayor as I don't live in London :)

What in your post is there to respond to? I've already forgotten your meme. Right now I'm trying to remember back when you were good at conversation. :lol6:

OK, forget it. Peace, brother. But stop with the dumb memes. :lulz1:
So...you have no opinion on why your tribe lost the election even though a year has passed, you have no opinion regarding Occasional Cortex who is aiming to be the leader of your tribe and that is all because I am bad at conversation. Sure, got it. . I will work on that.

Yeah it’s fairly clear why they lost. But if they’re even daydreaming about AOC in charge, they haven’t learned their lesson. I don’t think people want to elect a president who actually hates them…

Now, is that what I said? it is not. I said I didn't care to revisit the whole thing for your sake. Did I say I have no opinion about AOC? I did not. First you harass me, now you just for misquoting. Fine.

AOC will not be the Democratic nominee next go around, I can pretty much guarantee that.

From Yale, another example of white liberal racism:

White Liberals Present Themselves as Less Competent in Interactions with African-Americans

According to new research by Cydney Dupree, assistant professor of organizational behavior at Yale SOM, white liberals tend to downplay their own verbal competence in exchanges with racial minorities, compared to how other white Americans act in such exchanges. The study is scheduled for publication in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology.

A continuation of the concept of soft bigotry of low expectations as practiced by many on the left. But because of serious lack of self awareness, they see it is compassion and kindness. It is of course neither.

I can't believe you and Kieran even have the gall to compare what you see as this "soft bigotry" on the left with the very "hard" and blatant bigotry on the right.

Do you mean the issue of "Christmas getting short shrift?" They try pushing that one around here, too. It's a bit much. The Christian right and the men have turned into the snowflakes around here. SOOOO put upon!

KILLJOY !
I know! LOL. You clearly enjoy punching at her. But why? And that's a serious question. The right has been attacking her since she was first elected, even when all she was just a new representative from NYC. Why so much obsessing over her? I've been trying to figure it out for a long time.

As to 2028, I'm pretty sure the Dems will be nominating a white guy. By now, we see which way the wind blows. (And there's a partial answer for you! Happy now? :lulz1:)
