Zverev was robbed. MTOs are NOT meant to be allowed for cramp and he was 100% right calling it out as bs.

I was on the live chat with Britbox as I was live at that match with Alcaraz and Zverev, we both agreed that Zverev needed to win the 2nd set, and probably could not come back from 2 sets to love. So I decided to go to a restaurant and have a early dinner before Sinner v Novak match, and nearly fell off my chair at the restaurant when Zverev came back, the whole of Melbourne Park was hushed and still,
Never rule out Carlos, we have all seen that movie before, when Jannik was serving for the match at RG last year
Carlos that is what champions are made of, you are just one of them. Well done!
Alexander Zverev's biggest problem in the biggest moments of a match in the biggest tournaments is that he's still Alexander Zverev!
Zverev is right that he should have done better in set 3 and 4, seal those sets quicker before Alcaraz fully recovered.

Alcaraz refused to go down again and proved to be most dangerous when the opponent thinks he has him. Would be good to know his 5 set record win percentage compared to Sinner's or even Novak's.

Thanks Don
I would have to look that up but good point, I would say his 5 win percentage rate would be higher than Janniks without looking it up :)

Just looked it up and he's 15-1 in 5 set matches. They said something in commentary yesterday but I thought I mis-heard. That's insanely good. I think Djokovic was 41-11 going into the 5th yrsterday - also good but Carlito is off the charts.

And guess who Chuck's one loss was to? Babycakes at the AO.

While Alcaraz and Djokovic excel in 5-set matches, the narrative that Sinner cannot win 5-set matches lives on.

I would just like to point out after Carlos was up 2 sets to love I thought he had the match won and went to have a early dinner at the AO, I nearly fell off my chair at the restaurant when Sasha won the 3rd set, there was a Big Hush over Melbourne Park when it went to 5 sets, Sasha served for the match, you can never right off Carlos and he came back to win in 5, thats why there are limited photos in the SF

Listen I’m never going to be a crown prince Zverev fan but I have developed a grudging admiration for his consistency. He’s been in the top 10 ( at least half of that top 5) for 8 out of the last 9 years. The only exception was 2022 when he got injured playing Nadal at the French Open. Looks like this year he could stay there again.

Compare to the other crown prince the younger Tsitsipas whose fallen off the radar and is unlikely to come back.

Say what you will about Zverev, he’s had staying power.
