Alexander Zverev Press Conference
AO Quarter Final: W v Learner Thien 6-3 6-7 6-1 7-6

LeoAI Transcript Summary
  • Zverev expressed satisfaction with his current form, stating he feels pain-free and is playing well for the first time in about a year
  • He identified his best tennis as being at Roland Garros in 2022, before he suffered a significant injury
  • Sascha highlighted that being pain-free has been the biggest factor in his improved performance, allowing him to play with greater freedom and confidence
  • He credited his improved serve as key to his victory over Learner Tien, especially given Tien’s strong baseline play
  • Zverev noted that Tien’s game has improved significantly, particularly in his ability to control rallies and make every spot on the court dangerous
  • He acknowledged the importance of managing his schedule better, admitting his previous schedule was too demanding and contributed to mental and physical fatigue
  • Zverev stated he doesn’t care about the high earnings of players like Alcaraz and Sinner, emphasising that his focus is on health and performance, not financial rewards
  • He mentioned that he enjoys playing in Australia but recognises the need to be more selective with his tournament choices moving forward
  • Zverev said he feels less pressure at this stage of the tournament and is focused on enjoying his tennis, while still pursuing a Grand Slam title
  • He welcomed the conditions with the roof closed, calling them ideal due to the stable temperature and air conditioning

Alex de Minaur Press Conference
AO Quarter Final: L v Carlos Alcaraz 5-7 2-6 1-6

LeoAI Transcript Summary
  • Alex De Minaur expresses pride in reaching his second consecutive quarterfinal at the Australian Open but is disappointed with his performance.
  • He acknowledges that while he has improved significantly since last year, the results did not reflect his progress, leaving him deflated.
  • Alex recognises he took a step forward in mental toughness, particularly in high-pressure moments, such as saving break points, but struggled to execute consistently.
  • He admits to playing out of his comfort zone and acknowledges the need to become more comfortable in high-intensity matches to reach the next level.
  • He identifies a need to increase ball speed and adjust his flat ground strokes to better handle players with heavy spin, like Alcaraz and Sinner.
  • Despite the loss, he remains confident and believes he is not losing to players he should, showing resilience and a determination to keep improving.
  • He reflects on his preparation, including strong performances at the United Cup and exhibition matches, and does not believe lack of preparation was the issue.
  • He was surprised by Alcaraz’s high level, especially in night conditions, noting his power, consistency, and ability to control points.
  • De Minaur respects Alcaraz’s world No. 1 status and is intrigued to see how the rest of the tournament unfolds.

Carlos Alcaraz Press Conference
AO Quarter Final: W v Alex de Minaur 7-5 6-2 6-1

LeoAI Transcript Summary
  • Carlos Alcaraz considers his match leading to the AO semi-final as his best of the tournament, citing high intensity and strong performance.
  • He attributes his consistent concentration and focus to dedicated off season training, emphasising mental discipline and maintaining a high level throughout matches.
  • Alcaraz notes that Alex de Minaur, whom he faced, played more aggressively against top players, sometimes stepping out of his comfort zone and making unforced errors.
  • He expresses excitement and readiness for his upcoming semi-final match against Alexander Zverev, having practised against him before the tournament and noting Zverev’s strong serve and aggressive baseline play.
  • Alcaraz acknowledges his team’s advice to remain patient during the early stages of the tournament, which helped him regain rhythm and confidence.
  • He compares his current level to the US Open, stating it's slightly lower but still close, and feels proud of his current performance.
  • Alcaraz shares that a friend, Peggy (Gou), is playing (music) and he’s happy to support her, joking that he needs to win his next match to see her play.

What is going wrong there? :face-with-hand-over-mouth:

Why is the Serb going down? I saw a few moments from the match and it seemed that he isn't really playing with intent. Either he's injured or bored. Perhaps age is catching up now.

Djokovic will probably win still cos Musetti's fitness has always been poor but winning in 5 won't help Djokovic's chances in the semis.

Well there you go. Into the semis fresh as a daisy now. Tough for Musetti but, his fitness has always been his downfall as I said.

I don't think it matters as much as we think! Sinner & Alcaraz train crazily, but they're still vulnerable to injury due to the speed/stress of the game!

It matters a lot at nearly 39 for Novak. He'd have a very hard time against Sinner after a grueling match. Now he comes in VERY rested with a walkover and mid match walkover. The best he could have hoped for.

Front Novak was playing like Crap, and Lorenzo is a big Wuss it was a blister, he could have played on, Honestly Novak was given a Free Ride to QF because of a injury to Mensik and now this
Lorenzo that is the Last Time I will Ever Watch You, you need to grow a pair!

Wow... I had to pop out and pick my wife up and it was early second set. I come back and the feed is blank... I'm shocked Musetti retired at 2 sets up.

It's happened B4! OTTH, I do believe in 2016 @ USO, a succession of players defaulted, retired, or WD allowing Novak a clear path to the final! :fearful-face:

Match Highlights:

Question: Was Musetti clearly showing he had issues prior to his retirement? or was it all rather sudden?

I'm watching a replay now. Musetti started to save his right leg during sprints sometime during the 2nd set. He wasn't sliding anymore.
