Musetti's loss is an opportunity for Ben Shelton. I hope he doesn't blow it.

To me, the biggest shocker is the way Holger Rune lost. Rune has way too much talent to be blowing 2-set leads to the 143rd ranked player in the world.
That's a shocker, though? Dude is a head-case and seems to have found himself in a group of players with a significant gap between their talent level and their results, along with FAA, Tsitsipas, and maybe Zverev (hard to include Zverev, because despite Slamlessness he has an excellent career).

Novak had gazillion break points in a 2nd set and still found a way to lose it.

now Muller taking an MTO for his right leg. They put a cream on and are rubbing it. Good grief. Will either player make it to the finish line?

Please, Rune’s better than FAA with his actual results.

Tsitsipas & Zverev have had great careers, multi slam finals & Multiple Master wins. They are a rung above little Holger.

Finally the old boy Novak, wins in 4 sets, in a match that went over 3 hours, should get his grass legs intact for his next match! also just beat the curfew!
Meets Dan Evan in his next match

Tsitsipas & Zverev have had great careers, multi slam finals & Multiple Master wins. They are a rung above little Holger.
Please re-read what I actually wrote: I'm grouping him with those players as having significant gaps between their talent and results. I said nothing about comparing their results. So:

Holger:
Talent: top 5 player; Slam winner (maybe multi-Slam), multiple Masters.
Results: mostly top 10-15; one Masters, 2.5 years ago with no follow-up. Very few titles.

FAA:
Talent: top 10 player; Masters winner, maybe Slam contender.
Results: brief time in top 10, more top 20 recently; some 250s and 500s, but no Masters yet and 25 years old soon.

Etc.

Again, the GAP, not equating their results or how good they are relative to each other.

On one hand, I like the fact that Wimbledon is less predictable and more prone to upsets. On the other, I'm sort of disappointed to see a handful of those seeded players depart, as I wanted to see what they could do:

Musetti - He seemed to be taking a real step to a top 10 caliber on clay, and he's been good on grass in the past, so a 1R exit is rather disappointing.
Rune - Still waiting...
Berrettini - The guy can't catch a break. Hard to believe that just a few years ago, he seemed like a serious candidate to be the first non-Big Four guy to win Wimbledon.
Bublik - His story was fun, but that might have ended his possible rise. Who knows, though. He'll be fun to watch for the next several years. He knows he can beat big-time players, so will be at least a dangerous floater. Slavic Kyrgios.

And now updates on the Little Three...
At this point, I think it is clear that Medvedev is on the down-turn of his career. He peaked in 2021, was still elite in 2023, but his days of being a Slam contender might be done. If he wants to stick around for a few more years, it might be more as a guy that is more frequently on the outside of the top 10 looking in, rather than a "top 10 fixture." He's still got some game, but not top 5 game.

Zverev...honestly, I feel for the guy, but after Roland Garros, I pretty sold on him ever winning a Slam. He might win another Masters or two, but I also wouldn't be surprised if the end is sooner than we think, unless he has a come-to-jesus moment. How long can he maintain being the Blue Balls Boy of tennis?

Tsitsipas...honestly, who cares at this point?

Today's players are making me look bad w/ "prognastications!" I was thinking Musetti & Rune would do a lot better! OUT! So many seeds were knocked out early including Sascha yet again! If we had set up "brackets," all would be tearing theirs up! I expected Fritz to be a casualty, but as usual, Mpetshi Perricard's great start couldn't be sustained into a 2nd day! Rinderknech held his nerve to finish off Zverev! Novak had a nice 3 hour workout late going 4 sets!:face-with-hand-over-mouth::fearful-face::angry-face:

I don't think that bodes well for Novak. I know he's prone to losing a set or two early on, and I didn't watch the match, but what some said about him "huffing and puffing"...if his fitness isn't there, he's in trouble and definitely won't be able to handle marathon matches vs. Sinner and Alcaraz, because the only way he beats either one is through getting into their service game, outlasting and frustrating them....not through blowing them off the court.

But...he's got it relatively easy through the 4th round. His first real challenge should be Draper (or maybe Mensik) in the QF. But I don't see him surviving a gauntlet of Draper-Sinner-Alcaraz.
