What a crazy day: Medvedev, Tsitsipas, and Rune all upset in the 1st round. Alcaraz on the ropes, though I suspect he'll easily take the 5th set.

Hate to say it, but I really wouldn't be surprised if Fonseca loses in the first round. He's played and beaten Fearnley twice - at Indian Wells and the other at a Challenger - both this year and on hards. But...grass is tricky, and Fearnley's more experienced. Fearnley even took a set off Old Man Djokovic last year at Wimbledon.

Well Fonseca got thru! Had an avg. Brit in Fearnley who barely kept up w/ him winning in str. sets! Rune's in trouble! Up 2 sets; goes down/ out!:slap:

Yes, I'm very glad about it. From the clip I saw, it looked like two hard fought sets, and one dominant one. He looked comfortable on grass.

Also, with the Overrated Norseman out, the draw opens up a bit for him, though Brooksby is tricky, or Griekspoor is a big server, if I remember correctly. But I like his odds vs Jarry or Tien and he's good a fighting chance against Tiafoe/Norrie/Lehecka. Meaning, he's got a legit shot of reaching the QF, though it won't be easy.

Well Fritz is in trouble! Winning Queens can be a hinderance afterall! When Becker won Queens, it meant something even though only 16 yo.! You see how Carlos had to go the distance to get past an old guy in F3! The Lost Gen II's are still disappointing w/ Tsitsipas retiring & Medvedev upset! It remains to be seen if Sascha can survive this night session! :fearful-face::yawningface::face-with-hand-over-mouth::exploding-head:

True, but I thought making the finals at the warm up grass tourney Halle would set him up for a decent run here.

But again, results of grass court warmups to W are not always accurate indicators for the Championships, the Queens finalist Bautista went went out in 4 sets to Norrie.

Said to be the hottest day in Wimbledon on record, the grass must be baking. Rune apparently being stretched to five sets & Fognini split the first 2 sets with Alcaraz.
RBA wasn't the Queens finalist, that was Lehecka. RBA lost in SF to Chuck.

I think Moxie said Carlo's floor is lower than Sinners and his ceiling higher. Very apt allegory. He needs to show some more ceiling here.
Hey, I'm in Spain, getting ready to head back soon, so haven't been posting or watching, but that wasn't me who said it first. I do co-sign to it. I think @El Dude gets the credit for having said it first.

After Meddys 1s round loss. subsequent on other Wimbledon results, Meddy will be ranked #14 at best.but more likely to be around 16-18 after the tournament ends
Quite a fall from Meddy who started the season in the Top 5

Regarding Tits, his injured back still ongoing, I read Goran said he is in not top physical state like he should be and the first thing they are doing is concentrating on his fitness levels before he fixes anything else

Matteo ran out of puff, he had his chances but could not convert, seeing he did not have any pre grass tournaments, he was found wanting in the latter part of the match.more physical than anything

The most pleasing win for me today was Fonseca in 3 sets over Fearnley, well done young man!

BTW, in the Fritz v Perricard match which was suspended with 40 mins to go, tied up at 2 all, at 10.18pm, with Fritz winning the 4th set, Fritz was furious as the curfew is at 11pm and he thought the match could be decided in the 5th set, the crowd was angry as well. Play will be resumed tomorrow

BTW,
Fabio Fognini said it's possible that this has been his last ever career match against Alcaraz
He will make a decision in a few days

A bit of a scratchy start but Jannik found his groove in sets 2 and 3 defeating Nardi in 3 sets 64 63 60!
Of course I cannot say the same thing with my other Italian Musetti (7) who went out in 4 sets to Basilashvili 62 46 75 61
I realized Lorenzo didnt play any lead up matches on the grass, though I felt that was a match he could have won
