The Tournament:

The Italian Open, originally called the Italian International Championships, is a tennis tournament held in Rome, Italy. It is one of the most important clay tennis tournaments in the world with the men's competition being an ATP Tour Masters 1000 event on the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) tour, and the women's competition technically being a WTA 1000 event on the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) tour. The two events were combined in 2011. The tournament is played on clay courts, currently during the second week of May. The event is also known as the "Rome Masters" for male edition, as well as sponsored name "Internazionali BNL d'Italia". Rafael Nadal has won the men's singles title a record ten times.

About Rome:

Rome is the capital city of Italy. It is also the capital of the Lazio region, the centre of the Metropolitan City of Rome, and a special comune named Comune di Roma Capitale. With 2,860,009 residents in 1,285 km2 (496.1 sq mi), Rome is the country's most populated comune and the third most populous city in the European Union by population within city limits. The Metropolitan City of Rome, with a population of 4,355,725 residents, is the most populous metropolitan city in Italy. Its metropolitan area is the third-most populous within Italy. Rome is located in the central-western portion of the Italian Peninsula, within Lazio (Latium), along the shores of the Tiber. Vatican City (the smallest country in the world) is an independent country inside the city boundaries of Rome, the only existing example of a country within a city. Rome is often referred to as the City of Seven Hills due to its geographic location, and also as the "Eternal City". Rome is generally considered to be the "cradle of Western civilization and Christian culture", and the centre of the Catholic Church.

Jess Pegula who has already withdrawn from Rome, has posted on her twitter page that she will probably miss Roland Garros this year, as she is easing back into training. ( neck injury)

Badosa wins 63 62 over the Teen Queen, well done!, Badosa really needed that win, she has been going out in 1st round matches
Yulia Putintseva d Martina Trevisab WC 63 64
Ana Bogdan d Leylah Fernandez 64 61
BTW there have been rain delays in Rome, even though they have made the tournament bigger, they still havent got a roof, even on the main stadium
Angie Kerber with a good win over Lauren Davis, 61 60, , Lauren coming back on the tour, after having shoulder surgery, Angie only needed a GS title at RG to have a career slam, I always thought in her prime she had a great game for the clay, her defense for starters was sublime, sad to say she could not win in Paris

Ranking scenario at Rome,

At Rome Saba's ranking of No 2 is still under pressure like it was in Madrid, though she survived and made the final.
Gauff needs to reach at least the SFs, if she does and Saba loses before the QFs,Gauff will become No 2 a new career high for Gauff
If Saba reaches the QFs or SFs, Gauff can overtake her by reaching the final. Of Saba makes the final, Gauff is in the opposite half of the draw, need to defeat her to climb to No 2

Coco needs to worry about her game and that serve that is not working.Ranking will take care of itself and Saba has a lot to defend all year long so Coco might overtake her at some point. Fortune changes just like that, and injuries happen and a player can be set back by that.

Coco has a good game on clay, so far she has been disappointing on clay, lets see if she can turnaround her game in Roma, again she has a good chance of obtaining the No 2 ranking
Last year in Rome, Saba lost in her opening match to Kenin
Coco lost in the 3rd rd to Bouzkova, either player do not have a lot of points to defend this year in Rome

So it comes down to who goes further, no?

Play has restarted due to rain,

In earlier match Naomi Osaka defeated Burel 76(2) 61,
I was listening to a podcast the other day, Wim Fissette who is Osaka's coach, said a player he would have loved to coach was Maria Sharapova.

Message to Paula Badosa!

There is no need to keep going on social media and keep explaining why you and Stefanos broke up okay, she compared their relationship like Sharapova and Dimitrov, the right person just the wrong moment ? I would suggest keep off social media and get back onto the training court
Thank You!

Yes..we know Wim loves $$$$ and publicity.I have noticed that Osaka is now saying her favorite player is Maria and she used to say Serena.Quenwen used to say that Serena was her favorite player and once Wim started coaching her she stopped saying that.Wim , Sharapova,Cljisters are from the same WhatsApp group. Why does he want to associate himself with a drug cheat..
