No one should be surprised! I warned you guys that today's players won't have durability to perform at their highest levels w/o breaking down! If they make a SF or Final, it's almost guaranteed they'll WD or not play as hard & get upset in the next event! I warned Alcaraz for wanting to make the highlight reel each time he plays! It's costing him! I'll bet any amount it's those drop shots & volleys that's causing him elbow issue! Taking the heat out of shots to stop it dead takes so much out of your arm; esp. on the BH side! :angry-face: :face-with-head-bandage: :astonished-face: :fearful-face::yawningface:
You have No Idea what you are talking about for starters,
This type of injury happens to any athlete who uses their forearm in a repetitive motion,it is a predisposed injury,
Also weight lighters, rowers are prone to this type of injury? as I have posted before, it isnt a new type of injury for any athlete, that you think is the New Gen of Players in tennis, that also includes tennis players, eg Alcaraz,!
Alcaraz should have rested his forearm, before playing Madrid, where he was the defending champion, he decided to play in Madrid, resulting in an edema, which is not uncommon when you have not rested your forearm, though with the right rest and treatment he will recover.

Another withdrawal from Rome, Jannik Sinner has withdrawn, due to his hip injury, a big loss for the Italian tournament.
No 2 and No 3 ranked players have so far withdrawn, also doubtful is defending champion Medvedev, who had to retire in his match in Madrid with a right leg injury.
Jannik did post this message on Twitter ( I will translate into English)
" It is not easy to write this message but after speaking again with the doctors and specialists about my hip problems I have to announce that unfortunately I will not be able to play in Rome".

Rome Update:
OUT: Sinner
IN: Rinderknech
NEXT: Berrettini ( would free up a wild card)

Jannik Sinner address's his hip injury ( source The Tennis Letter)
Sinner says he wont play Roland Garros if he is not healthy, taking care of his body is more important than anything else.
"With the MRI we saw something is not 100% okay. However, we have everything under control, if it dosent get 100% cured, I'll stop a little longer.Taking care of the body is much more important than anything else. We hope to recover as soon as possible.Preparation for Roland Garros will clearly not be optimal, not playing Rome before a Grand Slam.My team and I will do our best to get there with as high a percentage as possible to compete".

So we could be seeing Thiem, Murray, and Rafa retiring this year. I know nothing official on Rafa or Andy, but it seems more likely than not for both. I imagine Wawrinka isn't far off, and maybe Raonic and Nishikori, neither of whom have been able to come back to anything close to pre-pandemic levels.

As an aside, did Juan Martin Del Potro ever officially retire?

Not officially Del Potro hasnt retired he was trying to play at the USO in 2023, that didnt happen due to the fact his overall game wasnt up to playing at the level
Del Potro was seen recently in Madrid tournament, he did say he wished he could retire on his own terms, not because of his ongoing injuries

Reports in Austria that Dominic Thierm is planning to retire in Vienna this year.
Already started to tell his sponsors
Sad if true but not suprising ( source Jose Morgado@josemorgado)
Well you called it @MargaretMcAleer MM...I just don't understand why give up so young? I understand it's a tough life without the big money paychecks

I feel Dom is making the right choice , he has tried coming back, his game is not what it used to be, having wrist problems for a tennis player is the worst, in terms of that is where initially you get your power from, he could not win a tournament, even at challenger level,
Lets face it it took him 8 years on the tour before making a major final, closing the gap on the elite was difficult. He won the USO at age 27.

BTW Dominic's Thiem manager and brother Moritz Thiem said that they will make a statement by the end of the week so there is no confusions about the impending rumors from the media of his retirement ( source Sky Sports Austria)

That's why he should not retire..Thiem worked his ass off and if he was injured I could understand..this guy was the TRUE world number #3 just a few years ago..
