BTW,
Jannik has joined the list of players in the Open Era, to have played all the GS final in a calender year,

Rod Laver
Roger Federer
Novak Djokovic
Jannik Sinner is the youngest player (24) to reach the four Mens Singles Grand Slam in the same season

also in those circumstances it enables the crowds to freshen up , get up and get a meal and non-alcohol drinks. Bring back the mandatory 10-minute breaks and ban MTO's, I say.

To be clear, I'm not telling him to retire, or gaming for it. I don't mind if he stays around, if he's enjoying it. I just have a hard time believing that he does enjoy the not winning. Though, as I said above, if he's enjoying trying to figure out how to beat them, and thinks he can yet do that, I would believe that as a motivation. But that's not what he said. He has more money than God, and he's won all there is to win. He's not in it because he loves playing tennis. He's in it because he loves playing competitive tennis. Because he loves winning. How much longer will he be happy to be the bridesmaid, is all I'm wondering. If he is, I don't mind. I just don't believe he'll keep it up, if that's the case.

Perhaps playing 4 out of 5 rounds of four-setters took a toll on him. Djokovc has reached the semis of the GS losing to "these guys" and Zverev in the AO, so there is no reason for him to retire until it gets to the stage where he loses to lesser talented players.

Yes you can. These were unheard of prior to the 1990's.

Why can't they address these during the 10-minute break or players can take care of themselves during change of ends?

I think Zverev is a 'lesser talented player" :)

It makes sense for these GS to be reduced to BO3 up to and including the quarters because lets be honest, that's the way the modern game is now, all baseline and offensive baseline, the days of 1993-2010 of Edberg, Sampras, Kraicek, Rafter, and the first incarnation of Roger Federer attacking style are dead and gone (sad to say).

I don't see the return of serve and volleying game, do any of you, my friends?

Also we're seeing more Medical time-outs (some questionable) which has also contributed and slowed the game down from the era i mentioned.

And when you consider that in recent times the Masters stopped B05 finals and Davis Cup moved to BO3 formats, to me is another sign the game needs B03 in the slams.

Bring it on !

I never thought I'd concede that much of a change in scoring, but something has to be done to cut these matches down! I also favored the NG YEC scoring w/ TB's at 3 All! Even women's matches are going long w/ sets going an hour! I refuse to watch it; maybe surf by periodically! It's just monotonous ball bashing except w/ the elites of the game! I won't be watching the Ladies' Final at all! Osaka & Swiatek could have gotten me there! Too bad, Ya'll have to deal w/ the screeching & screaming of these 2 banshees tomorrow! :face-vomiting::fearful-face::face-with-hand-over-mouth::anxious-face-with-sweat:

Maybe not a Bo3, but a hybrid. That is, a player wins if he wins the first 2 sets. Otherwise, splitting the first 2 sets results in a Bo5. That will make the 2nd set much more meaningful. The player that won the first set can go in with the mindset that if he wins the 2nd set, he advances and saves at least 2 (if not, 3) sets of wear and tear. For the player that lost the first set, he will play the 2nd set with much more urgency knowing that he will lose if he doesn't win the 2nd set.

players! At the end, Fedal was nowhere near as good even w/ that tainted win "down under" by Nadal 3 yrs. ago!

What a bizarre, incoherent rant. “Nowhere near as good?” If Novak hadn’t been blessed by arriving third to the party, when the other two were almost punched out by each other, he’s still playing catch up. Soon as Rafa went lame for the last time, Novak hoovered up a free career slam from the next 5 slams. Blessed. As for “tainted”, the sport was tainted forever be your boy lying and trying to cheat at the border. It was disgraceful but very typical of the man.

Classless…

Thank you.

You just restated my main point.

At this stage as a non fan I hope as long as long he enjoys it he plays for a couple more years, Ala Pancho Gonzales.
makes me laugh when his father was ranting about Federer sticking around when he was only 35. Where's the father's energy now about Novak hanging around??:face-with-tears-of-joy::yahoo:

No, Rafa's longest finals streak was 3 (when he won the French Open, Wimbledon, and US Open in 2010).

The most impressive stat to me is how the 2010s decade was bookended by Nadal/Djokovic domination.

Beginning of the decade:

2010 AO: Federer
2010 FO: Nadal
2010 W: Nadal
2010 USO: Nadal
2011 AO: Djokovic
2011 FO: Nadal
2011 W: Djokovic
2011 USO: Djokovic
2012 AO: Djokovic
2012 FO: Nadal

2012 W: Federer

End of the decade:

2018 AO: Federer
2018 FO: Nadal
2018 W: Djokovic
2018 USO: Djokovic
2019 AO: Djokovic
2019 FO: Nadal
2019 W: Djokovic
(this one hurts, lol... should have been Federer)
2019 USO: Nadal
2020 AO: Djokovic

2020 USO: Thiem
(2020 FO: Nadal)

This would be like if Sinner and Alcaraz had an encore, and swept the slams in 2033 and 2034. I can't see that happening.

Nadal also reached 5 consecutive GS finals in 2011/2012, started with four-set RG win vs. Federer.

2011 RG Final: Nadal d. Federer - 7-5, 7-6 (3),5-7, 6-1
2011 Wimbledon F: Djokovic d. Nadal - 6–4, 6–1, 1–6, 6–3
2011 U.S. Open F: Djokovic d. Nadal - 6–2, 6–4, 6–7 (3–7) , 6–1
2012 Australian Open F : Djokovic d Nadal - 5–7, 6–4, 6–2, 6–7, 7–5
2012 RG Final : Nadal d. Djokovic - 6–4, 6–3, 2–6, 7–5
Isn't interesting that four of the 5 finals was won by the player who dropped the third set!

13/14 years ago only seemed like yesterday!

Just watching the final of the mens doubles, what a hard fought match so far,
Marcel Granollers who is set to retire at the end of this year, had 2 stunning returns to break the GBR team of Salisbury/Skupski
Granollers/Zeballos (5) will now serve 6-5 to win the doubles title at the USO
Congratulations to Granollers/Zeballos the 2025 Mens Doubles Title winners defeating the GBR team of Salisbury/Skupski (6) 36 76(4) 75
This their 2nd GS title together they won the GS title at Roland Garros this year also defeating the same team of Salisbury/Skupski
It was good to see a big crowd for the Mens Doubles final!
