Because 2024 will be the year where Rafa will be the center of attention and Djokovic doesn’t want his own retirement to go unnoticed so he will have to wait until 2025.

Rafa wanted that too but it’s not only about what a player wants. Djokovic is realizing that physically he can’t hang with the new players anymore and will want to retire asap. Ideally he would retire in 2024 but now that Rafa made his announcement and will get so much attention then Djokovic will have to wait and suffer until 2025 cause otherwise his retirement will go unnoticed in 2024 except in Serbia.

I never knew Rafa wanted to play until 40, well Novak won his 10th Australian Open title this year, with little opposition, from younger players,.Lets wait and see how the rest of the year pans out, remember at this point in time, it is all about the majors for Novak,at age 35, as it should be.
