What a stupid idea :puzzled The draw is done on Sunday and Halep will be ranked 7th while $ugar will be ranked 5th.
Its a blondes conspiracy ! Angie will be ranked 6th even if she is 9th. Idiots.
The brunettes Simo and JJ who climbed the rankings in IW will be deprived of their rights
Stand up and fight brunettes !

rant over

I tried to delete this thread and failed.
I was wrong and this situation repeats itself whole year in all events. getting senile here... :D

I think you are wrong. In ATP, I am 100% sure that Miami seedings do take into
account the complete results of IW. The seedings for Miami in ATP is based
on the rankings that will be released on Monday, March 17th. I don't see any
reason why it will be different for WTA.

Finally, as far as seedings go, it is not a big deal whether Simi is 5 or 7.
This is because for the purposes of getting advantage in the draw

--- rankings of 1 and 2 are same
--- rankings of 3 and 4 are same
--- rankings of 5 through 8 are same

Men draw on Monday takes account of IW, women draw doesnt. Women draw is on Sunday before the new official rankings are declared on Monday by the WTA.
Its important because if Vika redraws, then $ugar will be top of her quarter and will avoid the top players.
Simo may get a tough draw AGAIN... :nono
If Simona is ranked 5th on monday, then she should be head of her quarter (if Vika is out). Unlucky for Simona.

Ok... its for "show business" and marketing, and its the same whole year in other events. I give up on this issue.

You are right. Miami seedings for women does not take into account the Indian Wells results.
I think it is unfair. They are doing this as they are starting the main draw women's matches
on Tuesday itself and so, they are doing the draw on sunday itself.

As you say, it matters very much also. Now, Maria is benefitting due to Vika's withdrawal
instead of Simona.

This is crazy. In IW, they started the women's singles only on Wednesday. Miami could
do a similar thing and then this would allow them to do the draw on Monday and hence they
can take IW results into account for seeding purposes.

Write a petition to them. I will sign it.

Si, Getting a tough draw is not always a bad thing.

You don't get big match tough dining on cupcakes

The best steel is the one tempered by fire.

A certain player has been choking on cupcake draws

for years. Another who gets tough draws a lot, has 17 Slams

Let us hope that Simona gets drawn into Maria's quarter. Then, for all practical purposes
that can be considered Simona's quarter (as Maria won't survive that long to face Simona,
not to mention that Simona can beat her).

Regardless of the draw in Miami
I am happy that my favourite player will be back playing.

The way the seedings work is no different then have been for years, so no need for complaint because ones favorite player is not benefitting from their new high ranking.

Simple fact is, every player has to deal with the seeding process.

Correct hence my First post edit which is saying the same thing as you. I wanted to delete the whole thread but I couldn't.

It is true that every player has to deal with the same process and hence, the process is
fair to all. Having said that, it is not necessarily the right process. (For example, if we
let seeds 1 and 2, 3 and 4 etc play in the 1st round and make this known to everybody,
that would also be a fair process as we are not discriminating against any particular
player and everybody is told of how the system works; will that be a good process?)

When one tournament finishes on Sunday and the other one starts on Monday, there
is no way the results of the previous week can be taken into account. However, Indian
Wells and Miami fall under unique circumstances in that they can afford to start on
Wednesday (as this is a two week long tournament and at the same time unlike GS has
96 players only in MD). Doing so, would certainly make it possible to seed including IW
results.

Actually, if there is a will, they could do this even with a Tuesday start. It is not
that difficult to do both draw and schedule preparation on Monday itself.

Another point that there is no equality between men's and women's tennis.
