Ohhhhhhhh drama. I love it.

According to John McEnroe, Federer and Wawrinka had a LONG altercation after their match. The article actually reports that they "came to blows." However, the direct quotes from Mac don't specifically mention that.

I suspect that a confrontational person like McEnroe can't conceive of a situation where more civilised individuals just talk after that type of match. It's not even clear to me that it was directed specifically at the Federer box. I was amazed. Mirka and Roger's father are normally very very good. If Gavin Rosdale had been there I could imagine a problem. But I'm loving the drama. It makes the Davis Cup a must watch now!

This is like those pro wrestling tag teams that don't get along.

Is McEnroe the only source for this? The only witness? He is one of the world's greatest exaggerators.

i take this with a grain of salt.

I can tell you that Stanimal is a surly character, and I know for a fact he has
few friends on the tour.

If true, it would be a shame, and quite frankly, tough luck for Switzerland.

I think this may be the typical case of the scummy British press looking for headlines.

BTW, on the ATP tour, it is a long standing unwritten rule that you don't speak to the opposing camp during a match.

This story is gathering legs it seems.

I have to say, I did chuckle when I read one of the comments in the Telegraph link...

"Mr and Mrs Federer have two lots of twins. Proof that Roger rarely pulls out."

:D

Ok, so Mac says it was a discussion, and then the papers run with it and it was an "altercation" which "nearly came to blows". Gotta love it.

Never thought Mirka would be at the heart of controversy. I might be in the minority but Stan always annoyed me. Though I must say, I don't have a clear reason as to why. I know that's entirely irrelevant to this story but I just thought I'd throw it out there.

Relevant to the story however, is the fact that there has been tension between Federer and Wawrinka for a while. In fact, I'm pretty sure Wawrinka's criticized Roger's lack of commitment to the Davis Cup a couple of years ago.

Wawrinka has few likeable qualities. Lousy hand shakes when he loses. Surly. Nasty at times. Introverted. Blah.

He can be very exciting when firing on all cylinders.

Stan will be a One Slam winner while Fed is the GOAT.. Stan is going to loose that argument everytime. Who will we remember, the 17 altime GS title holder or the Davis Cup winner for 201???

It just seems so out of character to me. I find it very hard to believe Mirka would do something like that. She's always been the one to applaud the opposition. How odd would it be for her to do it to someone who's supposed to be a friend of her husband?

You mean like here? ;) [Begin around 7:07 to be sure to capture Federer's parents and agent standing and applauding, while Mirka remains seated.]

:laydownlaughing What does that mean really?? This is a woman who was devastated that her boyfriend had just suffered a devastating loss!! I can only imagine what that felt like for her. No doubt she was thinking about all the crying in bed she was going to have to put up with for the next few weeks! Good grief..

Besides didn't she later pat Rafa on the back when he climbed up to his box? Oh! let me guess.. that was an assault right? Give the poor girl a chance to compose herself. C'mon man.. we can all find clips on line that can be used to paint someone in a bad light! You're better than this surely!?

What I find amusing about all this is, even if Mirka was goading Stan and acting in unladylike ways in the players box - and again, I can't imagine it - well, a) why would he notice that, and b) who the heck did he think she was up for - him?

I mean, there was maybe 20,000 peeps in the hall, and he's bothered by one?

You're sellin' - I ain't buyin'... :nono

Allegedly, she said something (or made some kind of noise) during his serve, which distracted him. I get the impression, therefore, he was bothered by the timing, not necessarily the act itself.

Lol! Nice out. Would have been easier to catch if you didn't follow up with Smirka. But I'll own up to missing it. Been a long day :clap

I would love to see the point in question. I'd be really surprised if a "veteran" like Mirka (you know what I mean) would actually disrupt a player during his service motion.
