A great summary of what does wrong with Argentine Davis Cup. I replied on the front page, since Fiero did, too. We'll see if that drives more comment on the front page. The deep division between the AAT and Del Potro is something they're going to have to work on, however.

There always seems to be friction in the Argentine camp.

They miss the humble-like egos of Vilas and Clerc! :) Nalbandian, DelPo, and the others probably think they're owed something! I guess I'm old fashion! It bugs me to see any country lose early rounds because their top players almost refuse to lower themselves to saving their countries' butt in world competition! We're spoiled and it's balancing out with us going to a relegation tie just to stay in the "world group!" :clap :nono

By the 'humble ego of Vilas,' I'm sure you're being ironic. Nalbandian paid his dues in. The controversy has lately been about Del Potro. And the problem has been more about in-fighting than talent. They've long had a good depth of field. If they drop from the world group, it will have been more an internal problem than lack of talent, as I think Canever described.

Vilas and Clerc already hated each other, it's a habit in Argentina to hate his partners or captain, very sad to see men act like children..

I think the loss should be attributed as much to Fabio Fogniini's form. Without seeing the match, Fabio is a very good clay court player, who is riding a tide of confidence, thus sitting at his best ranking of his career. And I think he has more upside still.

I have to say I was rooting for Italy against Argentina. I didn't fancy Great Britain playing in front of a very hostile crowd in Argentina.

Alright, THAT'S a good point. ;) By all accounts, it was Fognini's form, as much as anything else. But I do think it's odd that Argentina has almost more interest than most countries in Davis Cup, and their program is such a soap opera. They're arguably the best tennis country with no DC win.
