Anisimova got her 'redemption win' against Swiatek, winning 64 63, who had delivered a double bagel to Anisimova in the final at Wimbledon.
Anisimova played the striking tennis we all knew she was capable of playing, and even when she was broken, once in the 1st set and once in the 2nd set, she remained cool and calm and fought back, with the great ball striking skills she has and able to hit winners from anywhere on the court.
Anisimova is the first American woman since Venus and Serena Williams (Rg2022) to reach the SFs in all 3 slam surfaces ( Anisimova made the RG SFs in 2019)
This was Anisomova's second career win over a Top 2 player, following the upset win of Sabalenka in the Wimbledon SFs in July

Anisimova has a H2H lead over Osaka, though they havent played each other since 2022, Anisimova won at the AO and RG both in 2022.

Reaching the final in Montreal in July, Osaka arrived in NY seeded at a major for the first time since her comeback from maternity leave in 2024. Osaka hooked up again for the second time with Wim Fissette but their partnership ended after the USO in September 2024.Osaka hired Patrick Mouratoglou September 2024 then parted ways in July 2025.Osaka hired Tomaz Wiktorowski in July 2025 ( Swiatek ex coach) on a trial basis and still is working with him as of September 2025, Osaka said of Tomaz he is like a 'tennis encyclopedia' and has made clear cut changes to her game, as she made the final in Montreal.
After her win against Muchova in the QF, Osaka said it will be a tough SF against Anisimova who can hit winners from anywhere on the court, but she is looking forward to the challenge.

Both ladies have great ball striking ability, it might come down to who can control the baseline and get on the front foot just inside the baseline

Good luck to both players!

Amanda holds, and so the second set will be decided by a tiebreak now.

If i were a scriptwriter I would have Amanda winning the match and then thrashing Sabalenka (a player who bores me to tears) in the final.

What a fearless tiebreaker she played just then to level the match!

They need to start these semifinals earlier. 4 pm ET would probably work better. There is no reason for this to go on well past midnight ET, and competing against the opening night NFL game.
