Serena leads the series 3-1

Garbine won their only clay meeting w/ a convincing straight win in the 2nd round of the 2014 French Open. All of Serena's wins have come on faster surfaces. Can Garbine do it again? Or will Serena claim #22?

Who ya got?

If Serena is slightly off or injured, Mugu will win her first major. Hoping Serena comes through because losing two major finals in a row at her age could weigh on her mentally.

Serena has been fighting, so there is that and Mugu showed some nerves trying to close it out, and we know Serena is not the easiest person to close out.

Garbine in two.

Here are top ten reasons.

1. Garbine crushed Serena at RG with a scoreline of 6-2 6-2 (even though it may be 2 years ago and in round 2).

2. Garbine has played against Serena in GS finals. So this is not new occasion and so she will not be overawed (Even the first time, she was not overawed at all and played like big girl, unlike Sabine who was crying during the match. While she lost the match, the score was a respectable 6-4 6-4).

3. Serena will be nervous trying to play Steffi :)

4. Serena apparently has an adductor injury.

5. While this will be Serena's fourth consecutive day of playing, it is only the third for Garbine.

6. Garbine is about 12 years younger than Serena.

7. Serena' s movement does not look good and movement is very important on clay.

8. Serena's usual powerful first serves are MIA in this tourne

9. In the cold, damp conditions, Serena would not be able to hit Garbine off the court.

10. Last but not the least, Serena does not seem to be enjoying her time on court. She does not look happy out there.

p.s. Changed my vote from Garbine in 3 to Garbine 2 as the reasons list kept growing the more I think about it.

Serena in 2 tight sets only if she serves well. If she holds her serve, she'll put pressure on Garbine and she could squeak out a quick break or win it in a breaker.

Patrick is reporting he doesn't know where these injury reports are coming from as she hasn't shared the news with him if she is.

Serena has admitted she is nursing some injuries, although she did not reveal exactly what injury is it.
After her match against Putinseva, she took 2.5 hours to come to the press conference, which is quite unusual and again indicates some injury.

Apparently, it was Marion Bartoli who leaked the info. Marion was a witness when Serena was taking treatment for adductor injury after her QF match.

Either Serena realizes that she better put on a Svitolina performance or she better be ready to dig deep.

even if Garbine loses here, will she rise up a notch in the rankings?

Serena looks very vulnerable. So I want to pick Garbine, but Serena has proven me wrong so many times. I think Garbine will win but I'll be suprised if Serena loses. LOL Does that make any sense?

There is a reason why Serena's performance deteriorated from a 6-1 6-1 showing against a much higher ranked Svitolina to a barely eking out a win against much lower ranked opponents in the next two rounds. That is because of the injury. So, it is not something that she can magically turn on.

I think an injured Serena can be very dangerous as she might just go for her returns which might make Garbine think which could prove interesting.

its sad to hear that Muguruza is the favorite based on her favorable scheduling...remember Sumyk is French...all of a sudden she was being scheduled on Chatrier every day..maybe Guy Forget and Sumyk are buddies..
