Wasn't it just last year that Nadal said he knew #1 was no longer a possibility for him? Little did he know that all he'd have to do was play marginally better and wait for Djokovic to hit the wall. No offense to Murray...who's proof that if your greatest competition has motivational issues and loses before you can play him or has a knee injury and is out for 6 months - that your dreams of being #1 are well within reach. Without those 2 things happening - no way would Murray ever have gotten to #1. All Nadal has to do is figure out a way to win on something other than clay. :lol6:

The stars aligned for him. Not sure how long he can keep the wolves from the door.

On the live rankings, Novak just fell to #3, with 5805 points. Out of curiosity, I looked up last year. As of 6/06/2016 he had 16,950.

The new face this week in the top 100 is a low key American player Tennys Sandgren.
With very little experience at ATP level ( he had his debut at RG this year) he climbed only on the back of his challenger tour results.
In comparison to other American players, after RG, he has returned to play on clay.

Moxie, that is the straightforward way.

But, as long as Nadal finishes Wimbledon ahead of Murray by 1 round then Nadal will be the number 1 player after Wimbledon.

For example, if Nadal reaches the 4th round, and Murray loses by the 3rd round then Nadal will be number 1 again.

IF Nadal and Murray face each other in the semis, then it will be for the number 1 ranking. Similar when Nadal and Wawrinka faced each other during the French Open final (it was for the number 2 ranking).

Not so fast. Andy has a lead of 105 points over Rafa. Hence, Rafa needs to outperform by Andy by more than 105 points to overtake Andy.
If Andy loses in the second round and Rafa loses in the third round (which are within the realm of possibilities considering Andy faces Dreddie and Rafa faces Kachanov), then Nadal indeed finishes ahead of Murray by one round and that will only give him 45 extra points and that won't be good enough to overtake Andy (not to mention reach #1).

You are right, GSM

I forgot to mention that...but the general idea is that Nadal needs to finish one round ahead of Murray to become 1 again.
