The third premier mandatory event - where it's possible to earn 1000 point and a great deal of cash

Here is the draw

C_DPsJJVYAA8CZM.jpg

I won't be making a schedule or writing the results - I just think there should be a thread. And since this picture was taken the draw has been revised because Aga has withdrawn from Madrid and Rome.
Madison Keys into her spot and Pavlyuchenkova into Keys spot. So Maria Sharapova is meeting Lucic-Baroni instead.

Aga withdrew with right foot injury. I think she's been hurt for a long time. Good decision to rest. She wasn't going to make any impact on clay.

About Madrid

Madrid is the third largest city in the EU and has its third largest GDP. It's the largest city in Spain, and also its center of banking, advertising, filmmaking and government. Located on a high plain 2000+ feet above sea level, it has the highest elevation of the main tournaments. Once considered stodgy and old-fashioned, Madrid has leapt to the fore of fashion, food and film in Europe, without losing any of it's Old World charm.

Bouchard's win in Madrid sets up a potential clash with Maria Sharapova. As we know, Bouchard has been less than enthusiastic about Sharapova's return.

Disappointing loss for Madison Keys.

I mean, there's no justification for a tennis match to be finishing at 2;17am, local time! I dunno what time they must have gone on court at, but this is ridiculous, and very unfair on players... :nono

They began about 20 minutes to midnight and yes it's unfair to the players.

Domnatrix won her first match against the veteran Lucic-Barroni who is also coming back this year after long time (from injuries, not from suspension) with success.

Going to be interesting to see how Genie does against her in the next round

Wimbledon will decide on wildcards only in the week before their qualifying tourney. So, Maria has to keep guessing.

However, if Maria could rack up 400 points in Madrid and Rome put together, she will be virtually assured of a direct entry into the main draw. Even if she could garner only a 100 in these two toruneys, that will virtually assure her of a direct entry into the qualifying draw.

It is very doable. All that she needs is to make it to QF in both Madrid and Rome, or else just SF in Madrid and early exit in Rome.
