Will Madrid be played indoors this year? I heard some rumours that it will. The name Caja Magica only then would make sense. In that case, I doubt Nadal will make a strong showing. Not saying that he can't. Far from it. I just don't think he will like the conditions too much.
Also, the one with the guru will have it very tough against Almagro in the second round. Very dangerous. Otherwise, looks pretty boring to me.

I was wondering what you were talking about and then realized, ah, the draw is out.

It doesn't look like anyone has a clearly easy, or more difficult, path of the top players - it really depends upon how the draw unfolds, what upsets occur.

Very tough draw for Nadal, maybe my wish would become reality, a early exit from Madrid but much better in Roma and if he would reach the finals then a good win, resting and ready for the RG

It's been played in Caja Magica for years.

I don't think it's a particularly tough draw for Rafa, except maybe if both rafa and Nole makes the semis, and Rafa is afflicted again by the phobia that's struck him in big matches recently. But he's playing well enough to dispatch Novak, and anyone else in his way. However, like you, I wish he'd sleep it out, miss his flight, get the dates wrong - anything to skip this event...

The Players

All eyes will be on defending champion Novak Djokovic, who has not been in-form to date, and #1 Murray, who still seems to be coming off of injury. Roger Federer will be absent, and Rafael Nadal is trending on clay.

About Madrid

Madrid is the third largest city in the EU and has its third largest GDP. It's the largest city in Spain, and also its center of banking, advertising, filmmaking and government. Located on a high plain 2000+ feet above sea level, it has the highest elevation of the main tournaments. Once considered stodgy and old-fashioned, Madrid has leapt to the fore of fashion, food and film in Europe, without losing any of it's Old World charm. It's Casa Botín is one of the oldest restaurants in the world. It was one of Hemingway's favorites. Have the roast suckling pig.

Could have an early Rafa/Kyrgios battle.
We've said that no one wants Nick in their quarter at this stage. I do think this is where Rafa could go down early, especially as it's Madrid.

A few interesting early potential match-ups. I think Novak has a reasonable path to the QFs, though he could see Simon before, who has been a recent thorn in his side. Likewise Murray could get Misha Zverev, who took him out at the AO.

Ya, I would say the draw is uniformly tough for all top players.

Murray has to face the winner of M.Zverev and Lucas P. in his second match and that may be a tough one for him. Novak has to face winner of Robredo/Almagro in his opening match and these two clay veterans are capable of causing upset if Novak comes to the tourney with half his mind elsewhere.
Stan has to contend with PCB in the opening round and Pablo Cuevas in the next one. Nishikori faces the winner of Ramos and Shortman both of whom are playing well at the moment.

So, we may actually have some interesting matches and a possible Cuevas vs. Shortman final. :lolz:

If this was an "usual" clay tournament, I would say Wawrinka's draw, filled with grinders, is the toughest one, but given the altitude there a big server can be a problem, so, yes, I guess the draw ended up quite even, but Nadal's will have a good clay courter in his first match and possibly a monster server in his second, so his start is no cakewalk.

There is a Nadal-Kyrgios third rounder that may or may not be interesting...

I doubt it will be close, but you can always dream. Isn't this Kyrgios's first tournament since his grandfather's death? Who knows how into it he may be. No offense to Nadal but we all know that none of the younger generation get hyped to play him like they do Federer. I'm still laughing at the Miami match because Roger shrugged off some of Kyrgios's trick shots and attempted SABR but there were a couple of times when Roger flat out shocked the hell out Kyrgios and he just stared at Roger like, "Why is this old man still able to run down\hit these shots?" Fed running down that drop shot in the 2nd at 4-all and flicking it cross court past Kyrgios and Krygios staring at him - and Roger calming walking away back to the baseline still cracks me up. But...these guys don't get all agog when they play Nadal so it'll be clay court business as usual for Nadal. But who knows, maybe Kyrgios will surprise me and do more than show up - if he makes it to the 3rd round.

Oh, we're all still wondering how "this old man" is suddenly making Viagra seem like a sleeping tablet. :dodgy:

But how have you worked it out that "we all know that none of the younger generation get hyped to play [Nadal] like they do Federer?" What're you basing this on?

I thought it was JMDP's grandpa who died.

For a sad coincidence in fact I guess it was both.
