Aga lost her first round match to Maka so she won't have to worry about a possible match against Maria in R2.

Maria's initial path on the redemption tour is as follows.

1R: Vinci
2R: Makarova
QF: Garbage
SF: Kerber
F: Pliskova

I think Maria will win 1R and 2R fairly easily. QF will be tough but she would still mange to win. She will be stopped at SF by Kerber. SF would be Maria's ceiling in this tourney.

Mugu might be focused having to play Maria and could possibly take her out. She was starting to play better in N.A. hardcourts.

That's a shame.. Her game has really fell off.. she picked the worst time.. Maria, Vika and Serna are away from the tour the past 2-3 months really should have motivated Aga to perform at her highest level.

i think this goes 3 sets

She is up a break in second set too. It is 5-3 now for Maria with Vinci serving.

Well I said that before I saw RV hit 2 straight balls right back to Maria. Doh! :cover :laydownlaughing

A lot of her matches may have similar results.

Garbage is upset by a qualifier in her opening match itself. Now, it looks like a smooth sail for Maria into SF.

Kerber went out today. They are just handing this tournament to Maria.

Oh, God this is crazy. Isn't there anyone out there who could stop Maria driving yet another Porsche?

I get the feeling Kerbie didn't want #1 back just yet. She needed to reach the SF to overtake Serena again. Now she has to wait until Rome where all of Serena's points from last year's win will fall off. :speechless:

Serena needs 14 more weeks at #1 to tie Martina N. and 60 more weeks to reach Steffi Graf.
Will she be able to reach them?

Even though Stuttgart is neither mandatory nor premier-5 tourney, this one had a great field. Eight out of ten top players actually participated. Only Serena and Madison were missing. If despite such a strong field, Meldopova wins this title, I wonder why it would be difficult for Meldopova to win slams considering
1) In WTA both small tourneys and GS are best of three sets and 2) Serena is not playing the rest of 2017.

This is getting crazier. Today, Pliskova also lost.

Next up for Meldopova is Kristina. She is a relative newbie in the singles arena. Doubt she could upset Maria.
