The appropriateness of Djokovic’s new guru, Andre Agassi

Novak Djokovic is thirty now. He has won twice the number of slams as Agassi did before turning thirty. Novak has had a bit more of the stardust, fearsomeness and hall-of-fame presence. He has won 12 slams, completed the career and Novak slams and spent a great deal of time at the top of the rankings. But, he too isn’t good to go on his own all the time. He has been looking for someone who can revamp his game and help him add some firepower to his assault. He needs someone who aged very well in the game and added new feathers in his cap in the process, someone who only got better with age....

I think the two will get along fine. That won't be a problem.

Novak is a great returned and Agassi is a great returner. Their styles match. I am not sure whether this is good or bad.

On the one hand, one can argue that due to matching styles, Agassi would be able to help him better.

On the other hand one could argue that, given that Novak has crossed 30, he would be served better by a coach who can
make his game more aggressive and shorten the points instead of playing long rallies.

I rather thought that was what Becker was there to do...at least improve his net game. Some of that happened, but apparently the timing on the smash is not fixable, beyond where it is. It is my impression that Andre is not being hired to do anything with Novak's game, which, in and of itself is already great. It sounds to me that Andre is meant to be a "Nole Whisperer," in the way that Lendl whispers to Murray. He doesn't teach or coach so much as he gentles him, like a racehorse. It's having someone in your corner who has been there, and Andre had a very good post-30 career/life. Maybe he can tell Novak what he needs to hear now.

I'm not sure these guys need "technical coaches" at this stage of the game, more mentors and influences... Agassi ticks those boxes.

Yep If Becker's influence led to Novak's affairs, Agassi's influence will lead him to divorce. :lulz2:

I'm surprised Todd Martin didn't drive him to drink. Was that the worst coaching match up? I'm now trying to rack my brains for bad matchups... Connors/Sharapova might beat it.

All these discussions and articles about Agassi as a new coach are prematured. According to Agassi, he rejected Nole 3 weeks ago and than he was pushed by Stefi to coach Nole which he accepted but only for Roland Garros. According to Nole, Agassi won't even stay for entire Roland Garros but he will leave early (even in case Nole doesn't lose early).. So, for Now, Agassi is in the team for a week and we will here if there is more after RG.

It was also unfortunate one because Head tuned Nole's racket at the time and that was the cause of Nole's poor first service at the time more than anything weird Todd Martin came up with.

I don't think Martin helped him much.

That gets my vote. I don't know if you could come up with a weirder combination if you'd just drawn names at random.
