I created this thread for people to just rant about the bad news & air their views, get it off their chest so to speak so they don't get depressed or explode. I might write my views normally or in a song. I haven't decided yet. I might also ask questions.

Why is the news always bad?
Why is the news always sad?
Why can't we have world peace?
Why will violence never seize?
Why does someone always want to start a war?
What are all these wars for?

I'm sick of people not accepting votes & protesting in democratic countries. Majority votes decide. If the vote didn't go your way grow up & accept it instead of throwing your teddy out of the pram. If you protest against the majority vote & it gets overturned it's not a true democracy. Maybe you disagree with the vote but the majority have decided. Then Catalonians were deprived their democratic right for an independence vote. Democracy comes from the Greek words Demos meaning people & cracia meaning power to the. In Ancient Greek times rulers had other jobs such as owning shops as well as ruling the country so government meetings often took place afterwards or they shut up shop early or got someone to mind the shop.

Why are there a lot of wars over or terrorist attacks over religion? Everyone should be allowed to think & believe what they want as long as they're not disturbing others. Are they really about religion or are the perpetrators just using religion as an excuse?

Kim Jong Un is like another Hitler. Why can't something be done about him?

Why can't anyone do anything about I.S.I.S.?

I wholeheartedly agree with this. I didn't like Brexit, but I accepted it. It's worth pointing out that where Trump is concerned I don't think it's a case of people not accepting that he won the election. It's more that if it does turn out that there was a conspiracy with Russia and the Trump campaign to con the American electorate is the vote still valid?

For me, apart from Marseilles and Vegas and hurricaine aftermath, US tax reform is fascinating to me. Quite why corporate tax cuts are necessary when corporate bank balances in the US are at record levels escapes me. Tax cuts have nothing to do with employment prospects. It's a horrific lie and the administration needs to be called on it. You can cut corporate tax to zero and US companies will still see an advantage in employing people abroad because their wages are a tenth of those in the US

Hi Ann,
Most wars are about money or some resource that can make money. Terrorists attacks are a tossup. Most are committed by fanatics of some cause, be it religious or otherwise.

As far as ISIS. Something could be done about them with a collected effort, but everyone involved seems to be playing footsie. Every nation seems timid to really do anything maybe because they fear reprisals. I guess they don't want to start anything and have to commit their armed forces and budget to fighting ISIS without having any backup from other countries.

well, I won't go into stuff about America's contribution to ISIS, everybody knows about old school stuff like Operation Cyclone for example, all i'm gonna say is no wonder they're "playing footie" as Kate said, there's a war in Afghanistan that America and its allies, my country among them, are losing to bums in sandals... If the Russians had returned the favour and given missiles and other cool stuff to the extremists like America did against the Soviets it would have been over long ago.... Now we're just getting the death notices of our soldiers....Americans, Brits, Hungarians, etc. etc. but someone's making profit in all of this mess...... I think i know who it is :p

They were indeed. It appears that no one is safe in the world today anywhere. I feel sorry for the victims. It turns out Las Vegas's shooter was a failed gambler & that he had 20 guns in the hotel. What was security doing? I know Americans have the rights to carry guns for protection but doesn't it set off alarm bells when someone is bringing in that many guns? It looks like the world has to be very vigilant today.

Very true. It should be investigated properly & if conspiracy theories are proved right then new presidential candidates should be found & a new vote should be carried out.

Hi Kate!

Most wars are about religion, land or money or greed for money or land though it could be argued that all wars are caused by someone having different ideas to other people & not tolerating other people's ideas whether that's about what beliefs people have, who this or that land should belong to or who this or that money belongs too.

Thank you very much for attempting to answer my questions. I agree with your answers. My initial post was a natural chain of thoughts that's why the poem in the middle because I sometimes think in rhyme. It was also a bit of a rant to get things off my chest & calm me down. I also thought if I felt this way others might & it could get interesting. Thank you very much for the answers.

This 1 has both a serious & funny side. I've just read in the newspapers that the government are giving a devolution to South Yorkshire. West Yorkshire wanted in so there may be a Yorkshire devolution which means Yorkshire will have their own powers & parliament. Normally this right is only given to countries so we'll be separated from the rest of England & parliament-wise, Britain will be composed of England, N. Ireland, Scotland, Wales & Yorkshire. While it would be very nice to have more say in how our country is run & more powers it would cause jealousy between other counties & could cause another war of the roses. We have our own language. We say "get thissen a chair" instead of "sit down" & "Wheer's tha bin?" instead of "where have you been?". Our capital would be York as that's our county town but we would have to have a national anthem which doesn't mention our county town because the only Yorkshire song I can think of is "On Ilkla Moor bar tat" which means "on Ilkley Moor without a hat". Would we have our own money? If we did, would we have to change our money when we visited other counties or would they just accept our money? We'd have Emily Bronte as our national poet, the white rose as our flower & roast beef & Yorkshire pudding as our national dish.

It's not just Yorkshire, they are pushing a level of devolution among other metro areas - Liverpool, Manchester and Birmingham with elected mayors... It's not like they are leaving England, just having greater control of budget at a more local level. It's a bit like a bigger version of when they set up unitary authorities within counties.

Labour tried pushing this through on a much bigger scale during the Blair/Prescott years... but it was generally rejected by the regions at the time.

Interesting to see the possibility of a United Yorkshire again though. First time since 1974? There was some talk when they split the old shire counties in 74 that it was because Lancashire got too big... Liverpool, Manchester, Preston, Blackburn, Blackpool etc... so they split the county up... split Yorkshire, Wawrickshire etc - no it seems they are doing the opposite... maybe Osbourne's talk of a Northern powerhouse has some legs to it.

Thank you very much for your information. That sounds good & interesting.

The last thing they did that I can recall is renaming Humberside, East Yorkshire. Other than that I've always known Yorkshire as having 4 Ridings, North, East which became Humberside then went back to East, South & West. I hope so because the South seems to most of the say & have done for a long time, even during the industrial revolution where the North invented a lot of things & had a lot of the factories. I think our capital should be more central & our country should be run from the middle so government has more ideas of what goes on in the whole of Britain & more Brits get more say. I didn't realise what they meant by devolution of Yorkshire. The last thing I heard of devolution was when Scotland got their own parliament for the 1st time in centuries so I thought that was what it meant.

I've decided. I'm not going to allow news to get me down unless it affects me personally. I'm going to concentrate on my life, family & hobbies. If news starts to get me down I'm going to watch comedies or musicals, listen & sing along to music & play tambourine, read a good book or write a poem. Everyone can still feel free to vent if they wish & I'll help everyone the best I can.

I'm afraid I don't know but normally if you haven't heard bad news it hasn't happened. I'm sorry for the delay but no one else answered & I don't believe in ignoring people so thought I'd better answer even though I didn't know.
