I am taking bets that Carlos gets a tattoo of a Kangaroo or a Koala Bear in honor of his career slam and his first AO title

I do. Two things happened. Novak got older, Carlos got closer to his prime
OK. I'll give you some of that, but hopefully it's more that he learned his lesson in those losses enough not to make those mistakes again. I still didn't like his BP conversion rate, especially in set 4.

Agreed. But the fact he navigated that more comfortably than Jannik was informative to me. We’ll all watch this back and think it was more comfortable than the live view

Congrats to Carlito. Career slam at this age sounds insane. And kudos to Nole for doing what he is doing. I mean, why? Go home, play with the kids, grill a steak !
I am sure you guys have talked about this here, but I think some legit 3rd and 4th options besides Carlos and Sinner are urgently needed to spice things up. Nole cannot be one forever.

Welp it's been requested and talked about for a minute, but still no one really even on the horizon to threaten the monopoly.

Really? Sascha came so close! If not for his inability to finish, he might be the one to have helped facilitate Djokovic's 25th Major win! That's how Nadal won some of his Majors; an upset of Roger or Novak in the QF or SF! Nole did himself proud &'s far from embarrassing himself as some numb-nuts out there think! :face-with-hand-over-mouth::fearful-face::yawningface::face-with-tears-of-joy:

Press Conference:

Novak Djokovic L 6-2 2-6 3-6 5-7 Carlos Alcaraz

Leo AI Summary:

Match Performance

  • Dominant start: Djokovic played one of his best sets in recent years, winning the first set 6-2 and feeling he could win the match
  • Sudden shift: His energy and level dropped dramatically "from north to south in two games" during the second set
  • Brief recovery: Regained momentum mid-fourth set, got the crowd involved, but missed a crucial forehand at break point (4-all)
  • Declined to elaborate: Refused to discuss physical or health issues, not wanting to make excuses or take credit away from Alcaraz

Tournament Reflection

  • Significant achievement: Reached his first Grand Slam final in a while, beating defending champion Jannik Sinner in five sets
  • Fortunate circumstances: Benefited from a walkover in the fourth round and a short quarterfinal match with Musetti
  • Progress made: Went further than last year's Grand Slams, which he found encouraging but "not enough"

Mental Approach

  • Lowered expectations: Deliberately reduced pressure on himself in recent years, which helped him manage stress
  • Enjoyed underdog role: Found it motivating not to always be the main favorite for Slams
  • Immediate disappointment: Acknowledged feeling bitter right after the loss but expected it to pass
  • Coping strategy: Plans to spend time with family to process the defeat

On Carlos Alcaraz

  • Highest praise: Called him "one of the best players I ever faced" and "already a legendary player" at just 22
  • Complete package: Highlighted Alcaraz's constant innovation, physical and mental improvements, and champion's mentality
  • Personal qualities: Praised him as a "very nice young man" with good values and a nice family
  • Historic achievement: Acknowledged Alcaraz's seven Grand Slams and impressive accolades at such a young age
  • Future dominance: Predicted Alcaraz and Sinner will fight for the biggest titles going forward

Press Conference:

Carlos Alcaraz W 2-6 6-2 6-3 7-5 Novak Djokovic

Leo AI Summary:

Career Grand Slam Achievement

  • Became the youngest player ever to win all four Grand Slams at age 22
  • This Australian Open title was particularly meaningful as he had struggled in previous years, never making it past the quarterfinals
  • Came into the tournament "angry for more" and mentally strong enough to block out doubts from critics

The Match Against Djokovic

  • First set: Djokovic played great tennis, though Alcaraz felt he was also playing well
  • Turning point: Early mistakes from Djokovic in the second set gave him confidence
  • Made tactical adjustments that helped him feel more comfortable and calm
  • Described how tennis can change with just one point or shot

Respect for Djokovic

  • Called Djokovic's performance "inspiring" for all athletes, not just tennis players
  • Praised him for proving doubters wrong by reaching another Grand Slam final
  • Described sharing the court with Djokovic as a "privilege," "honor," and "master class"
  • Their post-match embrace was about mutual respect

Future Goals

  • Wants to complete all Masters 1000 titles (still missing three)
  • Aims to win the ATP Finals
  • Hopes to win the Davis Cup for Spain
  • Motivated by hating to lose

Personal Reflections

  • Plans to get a kangaroo tattoo on his leg to commemorate the win
  • Learning to appreciate and enjoy every moment, not just trophy lifts
  • Acknowledged the challenge of stopping to reflect when tournaments happen week after week
  • Honored to have his name in the history books

Alcaraz weathered the best possible start for Novak, but for a flashy player like Alcaraz it was the “inner” persona that shined through.

That inner confidence the great champs have, the calmness that they ARE the best player, regardless of the moment. Call it situational awareness.

I’ve never seen a player like Carlos in my lifetime, someone who can be dominant on all surfaces simultaneously. Suddenly he has 3 HC slams at the age of 22, his “weakest” surface.

Sinner may surprise us, but I do think it’s more a dip on Carlos form to stumble on red clay or grass going forward.

Dare I say it, Alcaraz is on the verge of becoming “boring”.

Agree with part of this, but I don't think it will get boring. I truly believe competition emerges. It will happen.

Well yeah, the last part was an inside joke as I’ve said previously if he keeps his mental focus throughout a tournament game over because he has a tendency to just get distracted with crazy shots.

Going forward there is some player out there with sheer power on both sides that will challenge hopefully. The question is when and what weakness of Alcaraz will he exploit, at age 22 I think Carlos crazily has some upswing potential, his serve can get better for one.

Again for such a young player never seen his likes of degree of “completeness@ in my lifetime.

I know what you mean! He has the complete package, but I don't feel compelled to watch him play! His game is effortless, but for some reason he's still more vulnerable than Sinner! He'll suffer bad losses & you wonder why? It's kind of weird that for some reason I almost resent his talent & the flashes of brilliance! Hitting those dropshots on the old man w/ a smirk on his face makes me want to applaud his disappointments! :face-with-hand-over-mouth::fearful-face::face-with-tears-of-joy:

I’m struggling to find an area of weakness to exploit. Even Novak had technical deficiencies, stamina and overheads at the start. I can’t think of an aspect of the game where Carlos isn’t top percentile. It’s going to take someone better than Jannik to find it and that’s really scary
