I'm watching a replay now. Musetti started to save his right leg during sprints sometime during the 2nd set. He wasn't sliding anymore.
Sorry Don he could have pushed through as far as I am concerned I have no patience
with him any more
Jannik could hardly walk with cramps and he found a way to win

It's happened B4! OTTH, I do believe in 2016 @ USO, a succession of players defaulted, retired, or WD allowing Novak a clear path to the final! :fearful-face:
Don't forget about Sinner at Wimbledon last year with Dmitrov. After that and now Musetti's retirement, it's only a matter of time now before the men's slams become best of 3.

Leo AI Transcript

  • Djokovic noticed that Musetti was struggling in the third set but spoke with a member of Musetti's team who said there were igns of injury early in the second set, though Novak didn’t feel it significantly impacted his game until later.
  • Djokovic mentioned he had a blister that required medical attention and re-taping, which was his primary physical concern. He emphasised that he has no major injuries and remains physically capable.
  • He highlighted the extreme physical and emotional toll of Grand Slam tennis, where players must perform at peak levels without substitutes, making injuries particularly challenging.
  • Novak admitted he underperformed compared to his usual level during the match and acknowledged the need to improve his game to compete effectively in the semi-finals.
  • Djokovic expressed confidence in his ability to perform well in future matches and reiterated his motivation to reach the final.
  • Tournament Schedule and Injuries: He discussed how the early season schedule, combined with players’ physical readiness after a long off-season, may contribute to the high number of injuries and walkovers.
  • Player Privacy and Cameras: Djokovic empathised with players’ frustrations (i.e. Coco Gauff) over intrusive cameras in private areas, such as corridors and locker rooms. He acknowledged the growing trend toward constant media coverage but expressed discomfort with the lack of privacy.
  • Rivalry and Legacy: When asked about chasing younger players like Jannik and Carlos, Djokovic clarified that he doesn’t feel like he’s chasing them, but rather creating his own legacy. He respects their achievements and acknowledges the natural evolution of tennis rivalries.
  • Final Message: Djokovic affirmed his intent to keep competing at the highest level, fight until the end, and remain a strong contender in Grand Slam tournaments.

There is too many one sided matches this year, both in men's and women's draw.

Men's semis could be the same or similar. Maybe Zverev can trouble Alcaraz a bit more due to past H2H matches, but can Novak put some resistance to Sinner? At least a decent match like last year RG?

My favorite is Alcaraz to win. It looks to me that he is playing the best tennis at the moment.

The hypocrisy of some as I recall saying that at Wimbledon Dinitrov having to retire with an injury up to 2 sets on Sinner was not a done deal, (ie Sinner was going to come back) and yet poor Musetti is weak for retiring with most likely a very serious condition.

Credit to Djokovic for saying he was “lucky” but it does point one of the reasons while being able to play relatively injury free he trudges on.

Novak can still beat most of the rank & file players in a Slam and once you get to the last week of a Major, you can never predict what can happen.

Hopefully Mussetti has a quick recovery, he must feel so crestfallen.

Well look what happened to Rune playing with an injury...
Sorry Rune's injury was horrific doing his achilles, Lorenzo has had a history of not being able to compete in 5 set matches, you cant compare
Lorenzo has even stated this week it is an area he needs to build on his physical state.
Lorenzo was up 2 sets and looking fine btw, while Novak was playing like Crap
