Novak had a chance, but his serving let him down! Carlos unfortunately was on a heater; saw % at 80 at one pt.! Djokovic represented ok, but needed to play a perfect match! He made Carlos work & made him look bad a handful of times! The UFE caught up w/ Novak; inopportune dropshots, a DF here & there, & volleys that were far from penetrating! He could get away w/ that against any other players but Sincaraz; m/b Alcaner w/ Carlos unoffically taking over #1 in the world on the live ranking! :fearful-face::face-with-hand-over-mouth::astonished-face::face-with-tears-of-joy:

not sure what you were watching Novak was handled. He had no belief left after the tie break. Honestly I think he leaves New York doubting if the window is still open

There will never be another Rafa! Carlos has dips in his game, that sometimes makes him pay, when he shouldnt, I feel he should play the percentages more, just my opinion
yeah, we've had these convo's. There's that hilight reel/losing focus gene that he can't seem to quelch. It rears it's head in just about every match. I think all we can hope for at this stage is that he minimizes that gene as much possible. So instead of sets where he takes off, let's reduce it to a couple of games or points.

Welp, I've been saying it all year. How long does he want to stay out there taking these beatings. 4 straight SF's where he couldn't even post a set. Like I said in Oz, he needed that win against Chuck to feel like he's still relevant to hang out there, but the rest of the season proved different.

BEATINGS? Wow; that's so unfair! Hard to believe seasoned tennis fans could look at this effort as anything but a victory for Novak! He's limited his play to "no warm-up" events and is still handling most of the top players! At the end, Fedal was nowhere near as good even w/ that tainted win "down under" by Nadal 3 yrs. ago! I personally think and hope Novak "calls it quits" at the AO in January! I think he has a little left in him even if not a major requiring a Herculean effort winning 7 BO5 matches! He still did himself proud IMO! How many get to 4 Major SF's ever, much less in the same season? At his age, he's the oldest of course and set another record by not making even 1 of those finals! Every time he goes out there he's setting some kind of record; even if a negative! Like Fedal fans, I'll try to enjoy his effort until he finally "hangs up the sticks!" :fearful-face: :face-with-hand-over-mouth: :astonished-face: :face-with-tears-of-joy:

Making 4 straight Major SF’s IS impressive & you just don’t know if the stars may align for you as long as you reach that far in the draw.

I don't see any scenario where FAA can push Bean off the baseline for a set let alone 3 of them. :nono:
If FAA can keep up the better 1st serve pct, he's got a shout.

Indeed, but the stars aligning is what he has to hope for. He just admitted in the presser that he can't beat the Big 2.

He can still roll over most of the other top 10 players when it counts, including Fritz & Zverev so the brilliance can flare up,

I agree The odds are diminishing , but again, I still take his chances for the star alignment over any other players 3-25 in the current ranking.

Yes, but look who you just said he can still roll. The also-rans, by a lot. I'm with you that Novak deserves credit for still being the 3rd best player in the world, which he really is. But he has been learning the hard way what it's like to be on the other side of the glass ceiling. He's basically just admitted that his only chance at winning one more Major is for opposition and/or injury to take out both Sinner and Alcaraz before he has to face them. That would be a lot of luck. Until then, he's a talented bridesmaid.

So what goes on with Sinners abs or tummy? Is he having issues, or is that just the commies?

It is Janniks abs for God sakes ! blind freddy could see that, even if he gets through this match, he gets treatment on his rest day I cant see him defending his title, great timing to pick up an abdominal problem

I don’t disagree with anything you just stated. Agree 100 % in fact.

IMO Djokovic knows his chances aren’t great and has said as much. Of course he has had to lower his expectations.

My point is frankly what does it matter as long as he’s made his peace with that & still enjoys playing the game.

I’m amused by non fans speculating that the SF beatdowns by Alcaraz & Sinner are unbearable for him. Apparently not so far.

I don't know that I agree with your last, though. The man has to have an ego, or he wouldn't have gone this far. If he can't win another Major, how much longer will he keep going? Otherwise, to what point? I think he'll see if he can figure out a way to compete against them. Solve the riddle. If not, he'll quit.

Why be amused? You think someone as driven and motivated as he is happy w/ these SF beatdowns? At some point he will face the reality that all the greats have to. Not being able to produce your best when it really matters. Only he knows when enough is enough.

Seriously?

Aging champion athletes past their peak who still enjoy playing even with diminishing returns; the horror !!!

If people can’t grasp why jocks like Novak may continue to play….

Rest assured Novak will eventually retire , LOL.
