I loooved the new Fantastic Four , as a life long Marvel reader (+60 years) we finally have a movie version worthy of Marvel’s First Family. Yes I read the original FF Galactus/Silver Surfer trilogy story in their 12 cent original comic book version. Still weep when I remember how my mom threw away my original comics when I was away at college, but I digress….
Pedro Pascal is an amazing actor, in just 3 years he’s been in Eddington, The Mandalorian, TV’s “ The Last of Us” & the Materialist, as well as now the perfect Reed Richard’s. His last big scene had me in tears & everyone knows I have a heart of stone.
Ditto Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm (Richards) and the interplay/chemistry with all 4 main characters is incredible. Enjoyed the clever usage of their four distinct powers. ( the 5th potential member’s powers I will not spoil)
The comic usage of one of their original foes, the MoleMan, is hilarious and that character actor they used is one of my faves.
Galactus is portrayed with the cosmic grandeur he deserves. Initially I would have preferred Norin Raad , the original Silver Surfer, but using his comic book girlfriend Shala Bal ( geeks like me know she was used as the Silver Surfer in an alternate universe/timeline) actually works well with the plot/narrative they were going for. It makes her epiphany that much more real and
true to the spirit of the comic book story of SS/Galactus. It’s amazing how CGI has finally advanced to make the SS actually surf through space with her cosmic surfboard.
I’m a sucker for early ‘60s/midcentury modern/Jetsons aesthetics and this film gives me a whole world of it. Give me more!
Dare I say it? The film is
fantastic. ( heheheh)
As to all you shrieking woke! Woke! Woke! The sky is falling!!, woke!woke! Woke! My panties are on fire!! first see the damn film before passing judgement.
ETA:
Also, finally a Jack Kirby quote in a Marvel movie.
Most folks are familiar with the late Stan Lee as the creative paterfamilias of so many of the iconic Marvel characters , but IMO the artist Jack Kirby contributed as much if not really so much more, his art drove those early plots.
Jack Kirby’s creation the Silver Surfer:
