BTW,
Swiatek is the player with the fewsr games dropped in Wimbledon in 2000s (35) the fewest since Navratilova in 1990

You could say so, all she needs is to win a AO title and she has her career slam
I don't know women's tennis all that well, but always had the sense that she has a higher ceiling that Sabalenka who is a great player, but more the type who is #1 when the very best player is struggling (Swiatek) or when the younger up-and-comers aren't fully in their peak form yet (Andreeva, maybe Gauff).

I think it is fair to say at this point in time when Iga is on her 'game' like she has been at Wimbledon this year, with no pressure, remember she hadnt won a title since the clay season last year, also a new coach in Fissette, she does have a higher ceiling, especially in GS finals compared to Sabalenka, though I have always said if Sabalenka can watch her margins most matches are on her racket, her emotions let her down, eg at the RG finals this year, she always plays with her heart on her sleeve
Iga has always been a great front runner in matches and she was just ruthless today in the final from start to finish, in saying that Amanda was shell shocked and frozen, nerves got in the way.
Mirra is now playing the tour full time, she is coming to terms what it is like to handle pressure, a good learning curve for the 18 yo who does have a great game with variety, no she hasnt reached her peak as yet.
Gauff and grass have never been a good combination, she went out in the first round this year to a player ranked in their 80's, so did Paolini who was a finalist last year at Wimbledon, I always thought Gauff has the game for grass, she just hasnt been able to put it all together as yet

Iga received a towel from the Championships with her name ingraved on it
Iga seemed more delighted to receive the towel than she did when she was presented with the Venus Rose Water trophy!
Tongue in cheek when I said that :)

Unless someone here predicted Iga’s Wimbledon win before the tournament started let’s put to rest all the crystal ball boasting once and for all. ; )

I’m old, I recall Steffi Graff double bageled someone in the French Open final back in 1988 ( her Golden Slam Year) so it’s been 37 years from the last shellacking this badly.

Didn't watch any of it but disgusting result, mostly 'cos Swiatek won but the scoreline is terrible for Anisimova. The unsporting and unlikable maggot Swiatek no doubt reveled in that double bagel. Hope she gets one some day. Was nice when Gauff hammered her 6-1 6-1 at Madrid this year. A great day for tennis.

That was the quickest GS final in history in 1988 Graff won the RG 60 60 to Zvereva in 32 mins

Sad to say Amanda was shell shocked and frozen from the start of the match to the end, nerves got in the way big time and she never recovered

" We may not agree on every call but I'll always respect this legend
"Thanks for the laughs and legacy, John" Mac" from Billie Jean King.
I think 'laughs' being the operative word there from BJK.

Just on reflection,
Maybe Amanda played her final when she beat Sabalenka in the SF. Just could not get up today when it mattered in the final
I read she didnt practice after her SF win, maybe fatique dead set in, that match with Saba was a pressure cooker from start to finish, mentally and physically.

That poor dear Girl.

Let's hope that this defeat doesn't tarnish her career; that she can learn from it and makes her a better player over time.

Here is Amanda's Presser.

While am not exactly a fan, i must congratulate, give credit to Iga Swiatek. She's won her last two matches conceding two games! I doubt that has ever happened before.

To an extent yes i agree. That was a long battle that lasted best part of three hours. I haven't seen the stats of the final, but her serve let her down.
