I don't think it's fair to call it a choke. There are swings in fortune, and both tightened up serving for it. Yes, he had a big lead. But he never went away in the 5th, either. People define "choke" differently, but I wouldn't put that on Jannik.
calling it a choke is an insult to what we just saw in my view. At worst Sinner dipped slightly and Carlos got loose. That word is overused and misused in this case for sure!

They just said this: 5 hours 29 minutes, and neither left the court even to go to the bathroom, and no MTOs.

True. Sinner never went away, well at least not until the super TB. That was a tad disappointing, I expected a closer battle there when you consider how the match unfolded.

We'll have to agree to disagree. To me "choke" is just a word, but this pretty much fits the definition...if not this, what? Jannik was up 2-0 in sets, then 2-1 with triple match point. Then he had a chance to serve it out. Alcaraz applied immense pressure, but Jannik still should have been able to hold him off.

Alcaraz sprinted away from him in the super TB. Everyone here keeps saying that Sinner's floor is higher, but so is Alcaraz's ceiling. So he showed that, in the end.

It's clear from this final that Alcaraz is leagues ahead and will end up with way more slams than Sinner. Wimbledon next for him. Coming back from 3 match points down has given him a massive confidence boost and will have crushed Sinner. Those saying they think Sinner will be just fine after this are fooling yourselves.

Shrug. I'm not going to squabble over a word. It was a great match, regardless, by two great players.

#2 edges out #1 in both the women's and men's finals.

By the way, Yannik is class personified. A #1 who knows how to give a concession speech, unlike his female counterpart.

Jannik has been really clutch in TBs in his career I was disappointed, in saying that Turbo Alcaraz came out of the block firing lead 5-0 and that was the end of the TB for me

Fiero, is that you?

Alcaraz is not "leagues ahead" and whether he ends up with "way more Slams" is highly debatable and completely unknown. To say that is "clear from this final" outdoes Fiero at his most hyperbolic.

Saba could learn a thing or two from Jannik, just sour grapes on her behalf, I am very disappointed in her

She apologized and made a new statement today, but still sour.

Novak is a distant third behind these two at this point, even at Wimbledon. IMO.
Remember, unlike with the other slams, there is a short turnaround between the French Open and Wimbledon. Performing well at Wimbledon after making a run to the French Open final is one of the toughest things in the men's game. It's a different kind of pressure, one Jannik has never faced before.

Also, Jannik is not going to have a rest advantage over the other top players like he did at last year's US Open (when he skipped the Olympics) or this French Open.
