Peyt is getting better w/ her nerves. She will go for her shots. If Jaz wants to win, she'll need to draw her into net and take some chances of Stearns weak 2nd serve.

I had a 'nanna nap' after the Gauff v Andreeva match,

Coco looked very focused in her match today against Andreeva, both players playing aggressive tennis
In the TB both players hit high quality shots, Mirra hit a wonderful drop shot to level at 5 all, then Coco won the last 2 points to seal the match, Gauff 64 76(5)
Coco extends her H2H against Mirra 4-0
Gauff will await the winner of the other QF Sabalenka v Zheng to play in the SF

For the love of tennis Sabalenka stop hitting your serves into the strike zone of Zheng who just broke you to love?
Wake Up!
Zheng will serve out the 1st set 5-4 she has taken her opportunities so far in this match and her serve has been 'on song' so far in this match
This is only the 2nd time that Zheng has taken a set off Sabalenka she wins the 1st set 64

Dream start from Zheng as she breaks Sabalenka in her first service game of the 2nd set, this pace of this court is suiting Zheng as she has time on her shots and her depth of shot is solid, Sabalenka cannot get any rhythm on her shots
Sabalenka getting a code violation for swearing? clearly frustrated.
Zheng is soo solid behind her 1st serve in this match! she is playing a controlled, aggressive style of tennis with little UFE and it will be some come back from Saba to win this match today. Remember to, Zheng won the Gold Medal at the Paris Olympics and event though Saba has a H2H 6-0 over Zheng this is their first meeting on clay.
Saba your a 'hot mess' today as Zheng has BP No 3
Hanging on by a thread, Saba gets it back to deuce
BP No 4 for Zheng, Saba's serve is just not bothering her at all
Saba holds on and Zheng leads 4-3 2nd set
Zheng still hasnt lost a point on serve, when she gets that 1st serve in? of course she lost 2 points on her 1st serve when I just mentioned it LOL!
Okay Saba with 2 BPs
Saved one with a great shot down the line
Saba with 1 BP
Nope Zheng with a solid serve, though quite frankly Saba should have made that on her return
Good hold from Zheng saving 2 BPs
Zheng leads 5-3
Zheng has 3 MPs, please end this match and take Saba out of her Hot Mess :)

Zheng played probably her best performance of the year, served well, return well, also great depth a well deserved win 64 63, she will play Gauff in the SF Well done Zheng!

Down 1-4 in the 1st set Jazz found her game turned it around and won the 1st set 75, and never looked back after that defeating Stearns 75 61 to become the first player through to the final, well done Jazz, she awaits the winner of Gauff v Zheng.
What a great week Peyton Stearns has had making her first WTA1000 SF and making the Top 30 in the rankings. Well done Peyton!
BTW,
Jazz becomes the first Italian woman to reach the final of Rome since Sara Errani in 2014!

A lot of missed chances by both players Gauff and Zheng in this first set, breaks of serve on both side, up and down 1st set, not much rhythm at all

Gauff is serving for the 1st set 5-3
Coco has 2 DFs while trying to serve for the first set Meh
Zheng breaks back again, 5-4 1st set
5 all, Gauff playing too passive, needs to be more aggressive
12th BP for Zheng and she breaks Gauff
Zheng will serve for the 1st set 6-5, come on Coco wake up!
Thats the way Coco move Zheng around the court a good fhand winner
Help me Zheng with DFs and Coco breaks back
6 games all a TB for the 1st set, seems fitting
Zheng has lost the rhythm on her serve, DFs again!
Its Coco's turn to DF her 7th so far in this match
Hell what a poor attempt from a drop shot from Zheng, the idea was good, the execution poor
Gauff 4-2
Gauff with a great serve down the tee
Gauff is better in the long rallies in this TB
Gauff with 3 SP 6-3
Gauff wins the 1st set 76(3)

Good response from Zheng after losing the 1st set, consolidated her break and leads 3-0 2nd set, though going on the 1st set, down a break dosent mean all that much in this match so far.
Gauff has to stand her ground on that baseline, and not let Zheng push her off.
Zheng leads 4-1
Gauff breaks Zheng to love back on serve, Gauff serving at 3.4
Of course going by the script in this match so far, Gauff broken again
Zheng will serve or try to serve for the 2nd set 5-3
Here we go again Zheng broken serving for the 2nd set
Gauff to serve 4-5 can someone hold their serve for a change, it would be helpful
This Match Is Killing Me!
Zheng breaks Coco at 4-5 and wins the 2nd set 6-4 well at least she didnt get broken when trying to serve for the 2nd set again
I need to take a break, this match is doing my head in
This match is going 3 sets BTW

Okay with a double expresso in hand I am now watching the final 3rd set of this bizarre match between Coco and Zheng
5 games all
Coco needs to have a good clean service game, getting another expresso just in case:)
If this match goes another 10 mins it will be the longest match at the WTA tour this year
Coco will now serve to force a TB for the 3rd and final set, it has been a crazy match, really cant get a feel on it, it has been a Battle for each player to hold serve tonight.
I must say the body language from these 2 players have been impressive, both locked in, and mental toughness, other players would have thrown their racquets and had Hissy Fits
TB for the match in the 3rd set
Zheng to serve first
No Coco had 2 service games to love and starts off in the TB with a DF
Wow what a dropper shot with slice from Coco, Perfection!
Coco with a little lead 3-2 and serving
Idea was good from Coco with the high lob as Zheng approached the net, it was a little long
Great angle from Zheng
Coco 5-4 to serve
MP for Gauff 6-4
Chaotic SF in a match that went for 3 1/2 hours, strong belief and mentally locked in from Gauff and not giving up, Coco wins 76(3) 46 76(4)
Well done Coco into the final at Roma
Zheng can hold her head high as she leaves the court
Phew I am mentally exhausted!
These are the final stats for the match,

Gauff W 27 UFE 82 BPs 9/17 DFs 16
Zheng W 22 UFE 74 BPs 10/27 DFs 4
Total points won Coco 135 and Zheng 121

Zheng needed to play better in the 2 TBs she played, something needed to improve on going forward, when things get tight

Ladies Singles Final,
Saturday May 17th at 5pm local time.

Coco Gauff (4) vs Jasmine Paolini (6) Coco leads their H2H 2-1, Jazz has won their last meeting on clay in Stuttgart in straight sets.

If Jasmine wins the title, she will return to her career high ranking of No 4, if she loses she will maintain her spot at No 5
Coco, she will return to her career high of No 2 when the rankings come out on Monday win or lose.

Coco will want to clean up her UFE rate and DFs she made in her SF against Zheng, 82 UFE and 17 DFs wont win a WTA1000 title, though to her credit, she didnt mentally go away in the longest match of her career thus far, I didnt feel the heavy conditions allowed her to generate pace, even Zheng was struggling in that area.

Jasmine has had to come back in her matches leading to the final she looked beat in her match against Shnaider down a set and 4-1 she turned it around
In her SF match against Stearns again down in the 1st set but managed to come back and win and then had no trouble in the 2nd set.

Gauff has more experienced in finals, she has won 10, while Paolini has won 2
Of course the crowd will be on Jasmines side, though will that be enough to get her over the line, use the energy of the crowd? she is the first Italian woman to reach the Rome final since Sara Errani in 2014,

Both Coco and Jasmine are first time Rome Finalists

Good luck to both players!

Ladies final has just begun, Jazz to serve first
Jazz very aggressive with her fhand gets the 1st break, some great rallies between both players so early in this match
Jazz consolidates the break, she is looking more solid early in the match 3-1
Thank goodness Jazz is playing like she should be, taking the ball on early, staying aggressive, I didnt like some of the new tactics instilled by new coach Marc Lopez, but today Jazz is playing like Jazz normally does.
Coco has her chances to break back but now Jazz will serve for the 1st set 5-4 I dont like the dark clouds over head looks like rain sad to say
Jazz wins the 1st set 64.

Gauff causing her own problems, her serve is below 50% and DFs at the wrong time and a couple of UFE in her opening service game as Jazz breaks early in the 2nd set
Big hold from Jazz and she consolidates the break,, this match is hardly done though, Coco is a fighter and wont go down without a 'fight'
Thats Huge from Jazz, she now has a double break over Coco and the noise level has gone up and up from the crowd
Jazz has been 'on' from the start of this match, all credit to her, playing aggressive, taking the ball on and aggressive with her returns and getting to the net where possible. The longer rallies go in this match, Jazz comes out on top
To her credit Coco gets back one of the breaks back, still more work to do for Coco
Horrid service game from Coco, Jazz breaks her to love
Jazz leads 4-1 2nd set
Coco has 49 UFE compared to Jazz 18?
Flavia Penetta in the stands looking great as usual!
A scream from Jazz as she is not far from victory! Jazz leads 5-1 2nd set
I love the fact that Jazz has a great smile on her face., she is really enjoying this match
Jazz at 5-2 , will now serve for the title in Rome and be the first Italian woman to win the title since 1985
Jazz Forza!
Paolini d Gauff 64 62
Sono Cosi Orgoglioso Di Te Jazz!

Stats for the match,
Jazz, W 12, UFE 20, BPs won 5/7, first serve 76%

Coco W 20, UFE 55, BPs won 2/5, first serve 53%, I feel with Coco she came out 'flat' in the final, a factor probably due to the 3 and 1/2 match she played against Zheng in the SF

Jasmine Paolini becomes the first Italian woman to win Rome since Raffaella Reggi in 1985
2nd WTA100 title
2nd Top 5 win of 2025!
With this win in Rome Jazz will go to her career high of No 4 ranking,on Monday, meaning that Iga Swiatek will not be a top 4 seed for Roland Garros, that will really shake up the draw!
BTW,
Jasmine and Sara are in the womens doubles final as well, a great tournament for Italians at their home event in 2025. Italy Forza!

I always look to Rome for players that likely can win Roland Garros, we still have a couple of minor clay tournaments to go before RG, personally I dont like players, playing a week before any major, only if they need to get more match play on clay, they also run a risk of injury.
After todays win for Jazz, I would have to put her up as a contender for Roland Garros, along with Sabalenka, who I dont know that she can handle the slower pace of RG, she couldnt handle the heavy conditions at night in Rome, , Gauff, as long as she tidies up her UFE and her serve,I have to include Iga, though now she will be seeded at No 5, which will make the draw much more interesting,, keep in mind Iga won it in 2020 unseeded and ranked 54? also Zheng, she has proven winning the gold medal at the Olympics on the surface at RG she could also play her way into good form at RG this year

Another factor for Iga being ranked No 5 for RG, she could face any of the Top 4 in the quarters in Paris if she gets that deep in the draw

Wow, seems like no one cares about the ladies! I woke up rather late to find Gauff was upset by that little Italian fireplug, Jasmine Paolini! Will probably catch the repeat later after the Pickleball's over on TCC! Straight sets too; DONE! Wow! I heard comments yesterday musing about Coco getting to #2 in the world! Is she legit or is IGA gonna step back up in Paris? :astonished-face::face-with-hand-over-mouth::fearful-face::yawningface:
