RE: US Open Day 7: Sunday, Sept 1 - Order of Play
I sense upset potential with Djokovic and Sousa.

Just kidding.

Seriously, though, rounds three and four is where it starts getting interesting to me. The notable matches today (other than Serena vs. Sloane) are:

Haas vs. Youzhny - nothing like a battle of 30-somethings
Donskoy vs. Hewitt - Donskoy's quietly having some pretty good results this year and we all love a former champ making a run

I suppose we should all be keeping an eye on the Last American Standing (Tim Smyczek), but its hard to care.

We have a doubles match and a singles match in progress.
A second singles match is about to start.

Anyone watching Wawrinka/Baghdatis? Stan won the first two sets 6-3, 6-2, lost the third in a tiebreak, and is now down 1-3 in the fourth. Bad loss for Stan if Marcos comes back from two sets down.

Going the distance, me thinks.
Lets see if Baggy can hold for a tie=breaker.

RE: US Open Day 7: Sunday, Sept 1 - Order of Play
The US Open so far have been pretty much a mere formality, a straight forward non-event except for Hewitt-Delpo, Stan-Baggy and some young guns bailing out way too early. I really hope some action and drama finally starts to kick in and gets things going from the 4th round onwards. Hewitt looking good so far, up 2-0 in sets. There is a fantastic prospect of having a 4th round retro classic between Haas and Hewitt. It's going to make you feel as if it was 1999 - 2004 all over again. Two veterans and old dogs of war battling it out for a QF spot under the lights. Sounds great.

Berdych-Wawrinka could potentially be a cracker too. Nadal-Kohls matches have always been entertaining and highly competitive. Gasquet-Raonic is a telling match rankings-wise and for both men's season. Richi trying to finally stop his weird 4th round curse and Raonic looking ahead to his first ever Slam QF. Ferrer-Tipsa is the rematch of last year's thriller. Robredo-Fed is a nice one for sentimental reasons. If Granollers and Istomin complete the 4th round, we will have at least some "new" faces in the 2nd week of a slam. Such a pity that Del Potro, Janowicz, Gulbis and Dimitrov are already out. Put them into the mix and we would have had a phenomenal set of 4th round matches but I guess one cannot have it all.

edit: Didn't know Donskoy already turned 23 this year. Strange.

Haas-Youzhny about to start. This can be the most spectacular match of the tournament.

only watched the first set..murray seemed a bit lethargic..then after watching Valencia vs Barcelona (messi hat-trick), I was happy to see he ran off with sets 2 and 3.

and at least Hewitt followed up his annoying victory over del stopdoingmyheadintro by winning again.

knowing me alan partridge, knowing you tennis frontier..ah ha.

The commentators said it was incredibly hot with high humidity. I think Andy struggled with the heat in the 1st set but he was fine in sets 2 and 3 - played some absolutely stunning tennis. I may be biased but he did. Smile

Nole's looking pretty sharp early in the match. Poor Joao is having trouble making any headway against him.

Haas woke up just in time, still a long ways to go. Smyczek has completely turned that match around. Just fed granola bar a bagel.

The real Tommy makes a timely appearance and takes the 3rd frame 6-2.

Meanwhile, Granola is having a bagel.
