Poor Roger
Gets Rafa in his quarter AGAIN. It almost seems like the draws are rigged!

RE: Poor Roger
At least he's got an easy first few rounds, with the first threat coming in the 4R with likely either Nishikori or Tomic. His only hope of getting past the QF is if Isner or Monfils upsets Nadal.

RE: Poor Roger
He had a 1 out of 4 chance of having a prayer in the QF. He wasn't going to beat Murray or Djoker either. We'll see if Roger even gets to the QF...

In fairness, if he can beat Nadal (which he can), he will be surely in the US Open final.

I thought his showing in Cincy against Rafa was positive. I don't get the negativity - if he's got to face Rafa, better the qf than later. And if he wins, he gets Ferrer in the semis.

Come on, can't keep hoping for the draws he got in the early days!

And we get our much awaited Fed-Rafa clash at US open, when Fed is a shadow of himself Sad

Actually, Rafa has an interesting draw: possible Pospisil, Isner then Fed. That's not an easy one for so early, and yet it could be the best draw for him, to play him in and get his range again...

I agree, i actually thought the Cincinatti game was very positive. I think he should take alot of positive from that game. How does the USO courts vs. Cincy?

I agree. For Federer to get to the final it might actually be beneficial for him to face Nadal early rather than one of the other two since this court should favor his game when its on. This doesn't mean he will win but I think this can be a better matchup for him if he equals the intensity of the first set and a half of Cincy.

Either way, if both Nadal and Federer make it to the QF then I'm picking either of them to make it to the final.

The other two idiots will likely have a slugfest in the SF.

Anytime a loss is seen as a positive...well then you can see the negativity. Moral victories are for complete scrubs. Roger isn't a clown yet and therefore losing at one of his better tournaments can't be seen as positive.

Cincy is faster than the USO courts and best of 5 makes Roger's chances even less.

USO courts are way slower than Cincy, if he couldn't do it there in best of 3, I really dont have hopes for Fed in best of 5

I have a feeling Roger is looking forward to that match...does that mean anything, I don't know.

RE: Poor Roger
Roger has only himself to blame for drawing Nadal on QFs repeatedly. He had
a nice draw in French Open (when someone else was seeded five). He did not make
use of that opportunity and reach the Final. If he were able to do that, all of these
would not have happened.

Isnt it an oxymoron to use the word "poor" in regards to Roger Federer:snigger

Exactly. Eventually he had to slide and face these types of draws. This isn't 2006. And he's 32, but still in with a chance. Believe me, nobody gave Pete a chance before the 2002 US Open final* and he won it.

*Nobody except me, who predicted it after his 2nd round defeat at Wimbledon and bought tickets to the final based on that. "Sampras-Agassi final, anyone?" I assed the wife in June, and we were there, in Row Zed, cheering on the Pistol... Smile

"Poor Roger" is actually a thread?? Cover

No No

(not after 17 slams and getting the 2nd easiest draw in the tournament)

I agree with everything Kieran says, except for the dig on the draws. We all know the draws for Roger between 2004-2008 were largely irrelevant--he was top dog across all surfaces save clay and everybody knew it, so the draw was of no import.

I don't like saying that, because that exact post is what we heard from 2006 up until Wimbledon of 2008 about Rafa. Anybody recall that? I do, because I was one of the ones who was saying that Nadal had to prove something to be put in the same category with Roger--who excelled across all surfaces and WON many majors. One of the reasons I respect and admire Nadal is precisely because he did JUST THAT--he became so much more and has a record that can be talked about with Roger's. No, Federer didn't progress further in Paris this year because he just wasn't up to snuff; i.e., just not good enough at the big dance--the same I said about Rafa five and six years ago in regards big events and slams. It was not Roger's fault then and it is not Rafa or anybody's else's fault now.
