Pre-Draw USO Poll
Considering the Resurgence of Rafa, the Deterioration of Djoker, the Funk Fed is in and
the Muddle Murray is in, who is your favorite for USO?

This is a Pre-Draw Poll and so you should vote before you see the draw. The USO draw
comes out on Thursday, the 22nd of August and hence I am closing this poll by Wednesday
midnight. We can have a different poll after the draw.

No hurry to vote. You can wait until the end of Cincy, if you think you need more info.

I voted for Djokovic, but I feel like the tournament is surprisingly open. I have no idea who will win.

Based on form? I would pick Rafa. Tonight's match with Fed might give more insight to just how far ahead of the field he is.

Nole lately is stinking up the place.
Murray has huge pressure to defend his first slam.
Roger is almost as bad as Nole.
DP has to go seven best of five matches, I'd give him a dark horse chance.

Keep in mind that winning Cincinnati hasn't been an indicator of who wins the USO for the last 5 years.

2008: Cincinnati - Murray / USO - Federer

2009: Cincinnati - Federer / USO - Del Potro

2010: Cincinnati - Federer / USO - Nadal

2011: Cincinnati - Murray / USO - Djokovic

2012: Cincinnati - Federer / USO - Murray

Now that I've looked that up, I don't want Rafa to win Cincinnati. Wink

Not just on form. Also considering "early peaking theory", your "crystal ball",
anticipated draws, wishful thinking etc.

Tough to say really. For example Djokovic could get Gasquet in the QF and Ferrer/Berd in the SF and would be pretty much a lock for the finals whereas Nadal, Murray, Del Potro and Federer could be drawn together in the other half. In that scenario Djokovic would be the huge favorite regardless of current form. It all depends on the draw.

Exactly what I was thinking. Does anyone know if anyone won Montreal + Cincinnati + US Open back to back? I think Rafa will win today and just wondering if he can make history by winning USO as well.

Srini, Andy Roddick and Patrick Rafter are the only players in history to win Canada + Cincinnati + US Open in the same year. Roddick did it in 2003 which was 10 years ago. Meanwhile, Rafter did it in 1998. So, Nadal can duplicate the feat in the 10 year anniversary of Roddick's only Grand Slam win.

RE: Pre-Draw USO Poll
With Nadal winning Cincy title, he will be the number two seed at the US Open.

So, the Top 8 seeds for the US Open are as follows:

1. Djokovic
2. Nadal
3. Murray
4. Ferrer
5. Berdych
6. Del Potro
7. Federer
8. Wawrinka

Tsonga is currently the number 8 player in the world but he already pulled out of the US Open so Wawrinka will be the 8th seed.

Looking at the seeding, we could potentially have Murray, Del Potro, and Federer at the same side of the draw. So, this Friday's drawing will determine who is the favorite for the US Open.

Eighth seed goes to Gasquet and not to Wawrinka.

^ dang. i was gonna say that the important takeaway from the seeding is that the all-swiss matchup won't come before the semis Wink

btw, i voted Murray, just going with a gut feel and a kind of optimism. i won't read too much into the hc swing, as Wimby has me hoping once again that Murray has made the switch to a big moment player (that hope usually comes and goes every 10-12 months Wink ).

of course, Rafa's form is incredible. (unfortunately, the only match i saw of his run was the last, the Cincy final.) just worried that the total workload might be a bit too high in the end. which is why i think what matters most for him is how the serve will work. it brought him one title at Flushing, and it could get him another.

It's not the best moment to fire a coach but he probably has his reasons

Just saw the US Open draw ceremony. Here are the possible quarterfinals match-ups:

Djokovic - Del Potro
Murray - Berdych
Ferrer - Gasquet
Nadal - Federer

So, Djokovic, Murray, and Federer got the worst possible quarterfinal match up. Ferrer is probably have a huge sigh of relief right now because he got Gasquet on his quarter. Although, he could face Janowicz in the fourth round.

As for Nadal, he faces Harrison in the 1st round, Popsipil in the 2nd round, and potentially John Isner in the 4th round. So, not necessarily a easy draw per say but it is manageable.

Brutal draw for Djokovic. He has to go through Del Potro and Murray to reach the finals. Then again, he can't really complain. He got Ferrer in his half in USO '12, AO '13 and Wimby '13. It seems we finally get to see Fedal in New York City. Just a shame it happens so late in their careers.

Hasn't Murray been dealing with all sorts of pressure anyway? Should he get used to by now? Well anyway.

Definitely a rough draw for nole... I still pick him to win, but Rafa seems to have a pretty open door. Murray has a really tough draw too, considering Berdych just slapped him around and has the h2h advantage, but Berdy is pretty mentally weak, so a 5 set victory will be tough.

John Isner has a tough draw, he can potentially face Monfils in the 2nd round, Kohlschreiber in the 3rd round. So, he might not reach the 4th round.
