Serena: Focused on Slams!
Is this true, Serena is more focused on Slams! This is what I read around here...
Are we suppose to believe it?

She has 8 titles this year, only one slam, lost the other two, that's 1 out of 3! 33% to be exact.
However, she only lost Doha, that's 7 out of 8 for regular tournies she played. She lost only one, she didn't play Dubai and withdrew, so I am not counting that one. 7 out of 8 is 87.5%

The Stats do not lie, right?

So is it Serena fans' imagination or is Serena really focused on the slams.
If she is, she better focus more. Only one slam left this year and she is defending it!

I'm sure she feels that way, but she waited too late to get serious about becoming the GOAT! Federer only seems to care about winning majors at this point in his career, but time has just about run out on him! He'll need help just to make finals; upsets, imjuries, & a lot of luck! He very well may win one more, but it won't be because he's as good as he ever was!

In my mind to be focused on slams, you have to be giving effort in the smaller events. You can't just withdraw withdraw withdraw and expect to do your best. So the statement is true. The AO loss was really just bad luck, but that's part of the sport. Noone will ever have a perfect season.

AO13 had bad vibes written all over it from hurting her ankle, hitting herself in the face and Venus hitting her during doubles....I hope she plays Sydney instead of Brisbane in 2014Idea

It's never too late when you can still win a major. She's still out there because she believes she can win. So far her beliefs are true as she won a major this year and regained #1. Will she overtake Chris/Martina and Steffi? I don't know. That's yet to be determined.

Kiu,
The top 3 are focused on winning slams. Don't you think Vika and Maria feel that way? Serena is no different. I wouldn't call the AO a bad result for her. She got injured early. She did well to get to the QF's there. Now Wimby is another story. She didn't execute against Lisicki and Sabine didn't back down. She's got only herself to blame for that.

Serena is focused on the slams.. Serena had a serious ankle injury at AO and some incredible childlike behavior with her media verbal catfight with Maria at SW19(she ran into a hot player in Lisicki plus her most trusted stroke, the flat 1st deserted her when she need it the most). However, the fickle idiots that run the USO will always present some unforeseen drama that somehow seems to find Serena which has clouded her vision while trying to win this championship. Serena needs to just keep her mouth shut and bring the Hammer of Thor( that spectacular serve of hers).

Although I agree with your comment on her injury at the Aussie Open, and slightly disagree on what happened at Wimbledon, her strokes didn't desert her, she played safe, scare tennis. But, she didn't have a "childlike" media verbal catfight with Maria, that was a one sided fight, Serena in fact tried to diffuse the situation.

Now, is she focused primarily on the slam, NO DOUBT! She has always been like that, and yes, she can catch Martina and Chris.

Flat 1st letting her down is referencing her flat serve.. When she is clocking the serve, Serena is almost unbeatable. When her serve is off, Serena's fh gets shaky because she is human and it happens to the majority of the top pros, just nerves. As for her media catfight.. Serena was the catalyst and it if she doesn't brings up Maria's relationship, there isn't a story.

Actually, the reporter overheard her speaking on the phone to her sister. And Maria's name was never mentioned in the conversation, the reporter made the assumption that it was Maria she was speaking of.

But, that neither here nor there, she's got to tighten up her game.

It did occur to me. Maybe if she had been blown out 6-1 6-2. IMO, what I said is 100% on point. She didn't execute against Sabine, period. There were multiple opportunities to put Lisicki away and Serena did not take care of business. Was she tight, scared, unfocused? Only she knows the answer.

Well we conveniently forgot about the other controversy; blaming that little girl for putting herself in a position to be raped! That was more horrible than gossip mongering! Apologies won't help that girl who was violated in so many ways, then compounded by Serena's sanctimonious attitude after the fact! Who does she think she is? When she's accused of being a "homewrecker," I don't think she appreciates it! She should keep her freakin' mouth shut unless she knows what she's talking about!

RE: Serena: Focused on Slams!

Serena needs to just keep her mouth shut and bring the Hammer of Thor( that spectacular serve of hers).

.

Are you saying you do know? I don't think anyone here can comment on a player's personal life. No one knows what has actually happened in their lives. Most of it is assumption and speculation.

No one has conveniently forgotten about the rape comments. I stated earlier that her issue could be due to being unfocused. That unfocus comes from a variety of off-court issues mainly stemming from the Rollingstone article.

Besides, if you want to talk about the rape comments your posts should be directed to this thread.

RE: Serena: Focused on Slams!
You make a good point. In that for all her success this year, I really think if she doesn't win the US Open her year is a disappointment. One grand slam when dominating the tour all year just isn't good numbers for Serena, in general any year Serena has been fit and motivated all year round, only one grand slam is a disappointment.

Serena seems to now want to break grand slam records, well time is against her in this, and she needs to start racking them up pretty quickly if she's going to get close to Graf and Court.
