* Scooby Doo
* Columbo
* Cheers
* Dr. Katz: Professional Therapist
* Beverly Hills 90210
* Law And Order
* The Office
* Breaking Bad
The list could go on forever, but these are the ones that immediately came to mind.

RE: Favorite TV Series
boy. Game of Thrones. holy crap. sure showed once again why it's one of the best shows out there. (remember people no spoilers! or adequate warnings if you're about to post a spoiler. it's doubly difficult with GoT because you got to warn people of show/season spoilers (in case someone for example hasn't seen the latest one), and much more so of novel-related spoilers.)

although i must say that it probably isn't my favorite, currently running TV show overall. that title would still go to Breaking Bad. huge fan of Bryan Cranston. amazing show, really. plus, GoT always has to kind of win me over because i'm not a fantasy guy (and it's getting more and more fantastic, after all).

as for comedy, i absolutely love Modern Family. i wonder how long this one's gonna run, because a lot of sitcoms go too long. loved 30 Rock, for example, and it barely managed the cut - the last season was pretty good, but the one before was already a significant step down from its heyday, if you ask me.

more extreme example: How I Met Your Mother. i actually liked it in the beginning, but it got worse and worse, and then drastically worse, and the whole premise doesn't make any sense anymore. it actually has become so bad that i can't even stand the old episodes now.

Hey DarthFed--

I watched some Spartacus: Blood and Sand yesterday and had forgotten how much I enjoyed the show. Yes, there is a lot of sex and an overdo on the detailed violence, but I agree with you that the interplay amongst the characters is what drove the original series (before the lead actor died of cancer at 38, I believe). I enjoyed it again. Thanks for recalling the show.

It truly was an excellent show, not just an entertaining show of graphic violence and sex. You should watch the rest of it; the prequel and seasons 2 and 3.

Season 2 was the worst of them as the new Spartacus really had to grow into the role. He took a lot of criticism and it might be why they chose to end it after 3 seasons but I think he did a great job in season 3 and it was a very good season with an amazing finale.

honestly though - i don't get why they didn't prepare at all for anything like that. given their past choices, knowing the guy(s) they've pissed off, i'd say their was at least a 50% chance of something like that happening.

SPOILER ALERT (though I'll try to keep it vague):

It's because the Starks are awful at the game of thrones, sadly. Look at what happened to Ned.

it's true. idealism and bravery don't mean a thing against true power play and realpolitik.

in Westeros, the Bismarcks and Kissingers fare much better than the MLKs and Ghandis... well, not just in Westeros, i guess.

Burn Notice and Dexter are both returning for their series finale this Summer which Sucks to high heaven because these are two shows with very excellent characters. However, the TV God's have felt my anger and how tried to ease my heart ache with the announcement of the return of 2nd greatest show ever on television ( the Wire by far is the greatest ever), IMO.. 24.. Yes , Jack Bauer is coming back to Fox next Spring(2014) but this time its going to be a 12 hour show instead of 24 as previously theme. Apparently, with the demise of over run American Idol and other Fox shows plus the cancelation of the plans for the 24 the movie, Fox is betting on the greatest tv character ever to come to their rating rescue, Jack Bauer( well the Wire's Omar is a close 2nd).

I heard about 24 and I am pumped too. Do you know any other details? Is it going to be just 1 twelve-episode season? Does it pick up after the last season (season 8)?

Dexter starts in 3 weeks already. It should be awesome to see how it all ends.

The Wire is high on everyone's list when they see it. Tough to compare Omar to Jack Bauer aside from the fact they were both "The Sh-t" Amazing show; the writing, the characters and everything. Omar was the best but then you have McNulty, Clay Davis, Stringer Bell, Avon, Wee-Bey, etc.

Thanks AP. I am just grateful it is coming back but still hopeful there is more than just 1 season. Maybe ratings will decide if they will do more. It does seem that it will pick up after it left off. It kind of has to because it'd be hard to make Sutherland look about 15 years younger if they were going to do some kind of a prequel.

OK, now that the shock has finally sunk in, I'm ready to call Game of Thrones the greatest TV series I've ever watched (this is strictly based on the ones I've seen. For instance, while I've caught many Sopranos episodes, I've never watched the show chronologically, and have missed out on a tone of stuff, something I should rectify soon).

To me, it has the best casting I've ever seen. Last week's episode really captures that to perfection. Without giving much away, Michelle Frailey's performance as Catelyn Stark in the episode's final scene is Oscar worthy.

I probably have more "fun" watching Dexter, and I find it easier to re-watch Dexter episodes multiple times, but I really think Game Of Thrones is an overall superior show (as difficult as it is to compare the two), and I say this as a HUUUUUGE fan of Dexter. Speaking of which, I cannot wait for the new season.

Sopranos was great but a little overrated IMO. It was just ridiculously popular because we all love "gangster" movies and shows. Also, the Sopranos kind of ushered in the new era of TV we now see on HBO, Showtime, Starz, etc. More adult-oriented shows where anything and everything goes. At the very least it was the first really popular show of its kind. Though it was very good, The Sopranos is fairly far down on my list.

GOT will end up being the best show I've ever seen. I have no doubt about that. I might even be saying that sooner than later (God knows how many seasons the show will have). Rome was too short to qualify though I absolutely loved that show. It's probably The Wire, Breaking Bad, GOT and Dexter for me. 24 was incredible too but I put that in "the other shows" category.

Found out really bad news yesterday: Showtime canceled The Borgias. It is obvious watching what happened last night that they didn't know it was being canceled until late in the season. Highly recommended show, but it will be done in 10 days after 3 seasons.

Apparently I need to give Game of Thrones another try. I watched the first few episodes of the first season, and couldn't get into it. I'm a huge sci-fi/fantasy fan, BTW, just so no one thinks that's the problem.

However, I do agree with Darth that The Sopranos was overrated. And Seinfeld. I tried it several times because so many people thought it was hilarious, but I laughed literally once. (When the marathon runner grabbed the hot drink from Kramer, thinking it was water.)

Game of Thrones has been on my "To do" list for a long time. Need to wade through Boardwalk Empire first, but took a peek at the Red Wedding scene - a good scene but not ground breaking stuff IMO - probably because I haven't seen the series before and not invested in the characters. Will buy it in though and catch up.

I can see why you would think some are overreacting to the scene (without spoiling anything). But really, it's because you haven't followed the show and thus have little emotional investment in the characters. It's sort of like watching the final killing montage in the Godfather (the baptism murders) on its own, without all the build up.
