Will Federer win Hamburg?
How does everyone see his chances this upcoming week?

I personally think he has a very strong chance of winning the event; I'd put the likelihood at about 70-80%. It will be neat to see him back there with all the Hamburg memories from earlier in his career.

RE: Will Federer win Hamburg?
Entry list : Almagro Haas Monaco Seppi Janowicz Dolgopolov Fognini Youzhny Paire
Robredo Verdasco Montanes Davydenko....no Nadal for the moment but he could ask a WC ????
So Olderer will face some strong opponents, let's see what happens (easy draw ??)

None of the guys Isabelle mentioned will just roll over and hand it to Roger. They all know now that if you hang in there and have a great day, you have a chance. Roger will have to go get it himself.

the idea of players just rolling over for someone is never realistic. All those guys make a living off trying to win matches, the objective has never been any different. It just happens that someone can actually believe players just lie down before a match, when they see one-sided results - they probably never compete on a real tennis court, it's easy to say these things you know.

don't think Fed can just walk it, but the important thing is he finds some rhythm before US hard court circuit comes around.

It is not rolling over or conceding even before stepping on the court. It is basically not digging deep enough when you are in a hole and you've got TMF or Nadal or another top dog across the net. The aura of invincibility is real and is effective, I have experienced it myself, on a much lower scale of course, satellite level. Roger does not have that aura anymore though and that was my point.

Ricardo it's implying human being aren't emotional. Of course someone's reputation can have an impact on a opponents psyche.....I seen it countless of times in many sports. Particularly, Federer enjoyed that Aura in his heydays....it was EARNED by the way.

Exactly, well Earned...Just like when Jordan looked you in the eye and said he was going to drop 40 on you, and then he proceeded to do it...Next time you saw him, you were a little shaky at the knees...

The draw is out. No gimmies in his path.

It doesn't look that bad to me. If he plays bad tennis then it could prove difficult at times. However, if he is serious and puts his nose to the grind and works at it then he could effectively mop up the field.

This field should be fairly easy for an inform Federer.

Not that bad of a draw for Roger aside from Gulbis in the 3rd. It's a tournament Federer "should" win but I wouldn't bet on it. So far this year Roger has shown he can lose to just about anybody if he is having one of those days.

It would be very interesting to see a Federer-Janowicz semifinal, which would be a re-match from their Rome quarter. After his Wimbledon run, you would think that Janowicz would approach playing Federer with higher expectations this time around.

Also, the possibility of Janowicz playing Verdasco is an intriguing one. That could be a really fun match to watch if they're not hitting too many errors. It almost happened at Wimbledon too.

After seeing Brands at RG, Roger could have a problem in his first match.

And Brands is at his career high, captured in your list yesterday. Definitely in good form, although ranked only 53, he's moved up from 153 end of last season exactly 100 rankings spots. Highest ranked victim this year is Tipsarevic, ranked 10, and quite a few players in the 30's like: Baggy, Klizan. Chardy, Youzhny and back to back resurging Monfils on clay. Clay looks to be his best surface.

Was thinking the exact same thing :/ Would like to see this match as it should be a good one but will probably miss it with work unfortunately. Will definitely check it out later though.

I am thinking he loses before the final; as to when, I don't know. I am not too confident on Federer these days. He shall have to surprise me for me to start seeing him going very deep again--other than in a major (he will be ready for that--no second round loss in New York, or third or fourth).

Virgil Cane is the name ...

Shawnbm, I feel the same about Federer nowadays. I don't have much confidence until we see some results.
