Monte Carlo Rolex Masters CC 2017
The clay season is here, folks. And the first masters will be underway on the 16th of April.

Seeds:

1. Andy Murray
2. Novak Djokovic
3. Stan Wawrinka
4. Rafael Nadal
5. Marin Cilic
6. Dominic Thiem
7. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga
8. Grigor Dimitrov

Raonic has withdrawn from the tourney citing hamstring injury who otherwise would have been seeded 4th.

I think Dominic Thiem is the toughest QF opponent that any of the top 4 seeds could draw. Rafa will draw either Andy or Novak for the SF which is a familiar thing from the past decade.

P.S: I had to modify the seeds. These are the correct seeds.

So, Rafa lucked out. Moving up from 5 to 4 is a big deal than moving up from say 6 to 5.

Rafa can still draw Dominic and that can be a good match. Dominic reached SF at IW. So, he should be in some form.

Andy or Novak would not be able to play their best tennis I would think. It should take some matches for them to get primed. You never know though.

Shall Rafa face a primed Novak or Andy in the semis (if they SHOW UP), it will be a great match. Litmus test for both.

I think the draw will be released today? Isn't that the case?

Rafa is ranked higher than Milos: why would Milos have been 4th seed?

Maybe the seeds were taken out of rankings some time back?

These would have been the seeds had Milos not withdrawn

So looking at the rankings we know that old rankings have been taken

You are right and the OP is wrong. Rafa is ranked 5th and as Federer is not playing MC, Rafa legitimately gets the 4th seed (and it has nothing to do with Milos dropping out).

Were you looking at the entry list? If so, yes that would have used the rankings from some time ago. But the current ranking would be used for the seeding.

Monfils also out, Grigor is the 8 seed

Djokovic has the toughest quarter-final opponent without a doubt.

Not sure about that. Is Grigor that good on clay?

Not really, but AO was pretty slow and there is more room for upsets in best-of-threes, so if Grigor comes out strong, he could sneak it by Rafa.

Of course I highly doubt it will happen, but should be interesting.

Grigor is no way near his AO form. Hence, I would say Rafa has easiest QF opponent. Novak has the toughest QF opponent and others are in the middle.

AO was slow? I don't think so.
