Isner really is a brick at the net but it's mostly due to extremely poor footwork..

And Zeverev won. That has been a good match with errors and good points too

This kid has enormous mental strength to stay in with the serve bot and eke out a victory and that too after going down a minibreak in TB.

I didn't see the match against Djokovic, so cannot say. I'm just sharing what I saw, which is that Del Potro was still very dangerous today, not to be taken lightly.

Anyhow, great wins for "GenNext."

All the talk of Del Potro was playing better before makes no sense. Why? Because he played different opponents. Murray and Djokovic are nowhere near as aggressive as Federer so this result was totally predictable and inevitable. People who dislike Federer can't see that though 'cos their hatred blinds them.

Honestly Zverev got very lucky in the TB. Up to 4x2 Isner, his two points came from UFE´s of the American, one of theam a near miss in a point there was no need to go to the lines. Up to this point Zverev was just putting the ball in play. From that point on, he started to play a bit more aggressively, and made one hell of a volley I guess to get to 6x5, but I couldn´t help but feel that he hasn´t really earned that win.

Having said that, I still think he has a huge upside. I only don´t expect it to happen just now (and by this I mean not this year).

As for Del Potro, I watched some of the match and my observation is that he was playing very well - maybe not like he did in 2009, but certainly the top 10 form that we've seen over the last few years, when he's been healthy. If he was hampered by his wrists, it didn't show in his game - he was hammering some deadly forehands the likes of which are still possibly unsurpassed on the tour. I still see Delpo as a half step ahead of players like Tsonga, Berdych and now Thiem, although a bit behind the Wawrinka/Murray level.
El Dude..are you saying Delpo was playing as good as he did versus Novak last week or as the post AO matches..no way at all. His bh is vulnerable but he was dropping it very short today..be fair

I thought del Potro was miles above the level he showed in IW at least. Forehand was just like old days (half a dozen 100 MPH plus winners), serving well, passing shots clicking, good net game. As for the bh, some were short yes, but very low and he went more for the top spin in this match than in IW.

Right now it looks like both Roger and Rafa have a clear path to SF.

This means if they both can win a difficult SF, we will have a Fedal final. So, the prospects of a Fedal final have considerably increased now.

Rog will play SF against Stan/Nick/Sasha and Rafa will play SF against Kei/Nobody.

I think that you have said that Roger will play against Stan OR Nick OR Sasha, isn't? and Rafa against who is nobody? because not too long ego (AO) I remember well that you saw Nishi like a very tough opponent, funny how someones change the opinions so easy for convenience Snicker

You didn't understand my post. I was saying Rafa's opponent in SF is either Kei or Nobody.
Kei is the only seed left in his quarter. I did not say Kei is nobody. All I am saying is that if it is not Kei, then it is nobody.

If Nishi can't reach the SF is because someone else has played better and has beaten him and we'll see who will be there of those three that you have said, first they have to play the QF

The top quarter is the best quarter. All four tough cookies (Stan, Sasha, Nick and Goffin) made it through.

Final 16, by quarter:

Wawrinka vs. Zverev
Goffin vs. Kyrgios
Federer vs. Bautista Agut
Berdych vs. Mannarino

Nadal vs. Mahut
Sock vs. Donaldson
Fognini vs. Young
Delbonis vs. Nishikori

I think Federer, Nadal, and Nishikori are almost shoe-ins for their quarters. Of the first quarter, I think Stan will beat Zverev, but then Kyrgios will beat Stan. So I think we'll have:

Kyrgios vs. Roger
Rafa vs. Kei

I wouldn't be surprised to see a Nick vs. Kei final.

Honestly I need to see Kyrgios beating a solid player like Goffin first. And if current form stands, Federer crushes Kyrgios just for the fun of it...
