Besides Rafa is playing much better than last year IW surface is fitting him well and in spite of that tough draw I wouldn't be surprised watching him in the final and playing better than the last two finals

I think you could say that about any player in that quarter.

By the time Roger gets there, Rafa would be fishing in Mallorca (thanks to Verdasco, who is coming off a final run in Dubai) and Novak would be dancing in Bollywood (thanks to JMDP who won't lose to Nole twice in a row). Lolz

Wait....maybe at that time Roger will be climbing some Swiss mountain, and I wouldn't be too surprised Tongue (even that he has two easy first matches)

I have a lot of doubts about Roger's focus and I do not see him getting past Rafa. Would love to be proven wrong of course ( and I have, many times ) but I just have this feeling that the AO win just did it for him. He's finally satisfied. Nothing left to prove (if there ever was).

^Makes sense but this brutal draw may be just what the doctor ordered in terms of focus. And I am looking forward to see him play Nadal again, I guess that with the extra confidence given by the AO win he wins in relatively easy two. Nadal needs to find answers to the improved backhand, but he has to focus on his own game and I doubt he lost time thinking about it (and he shouldn´t, there is a whole field to worry about).

I have not any idea if Roger has enough with the AO title (I doubt it) and more because he beat Rafa but I'm sure than the others have not enough with what they have done and they will try whatever they can to do better Popcorn

Well, actually I hope Verdasco does not play party pooper and prevent a Fedal match.

Well, for your happiness I can tell you that if Verdasco wants and wish to beat a player more to anyone else is Nadal but unfortunately for you Rafa is playing much better than the last year so I don't think he could make it again Ras

A large number of singles players are entered in the doubles event also. I could count at least 20 different decent players doing that. This is usually the case at IW and in Canada Masters (the first
of two back to back events) as players anyway has to stay around the area for the next event.

Novak, Andy, Rafa, Stan, JMDP, Berdych, Grigor, Kyrgios, Verdasco, Deliciano, Tsonga, Goffin, Cilic, Thiem, Isner, Sock, RBA, PCB, Querry, Lucas, Mischa and Sasha are all playing doubles.

Notable exception is the GOAT.

Fed speaking after the draw:

Most of the guys you won’t even see because they’ll eliminate each other," he told BNPParibasOpen.com. “The first message I got was Dudi Sela or Stephane Robert. I said, 'Okay, fine.' Then I heard that Rafa was in my section. Then I heard maybe Novak was in my section. It doesn't matter. I've gone through so many draws. I came here to Indian Wells to play against those guys. It doesn't matter if it's the semis, the final or the fourth round. I know it matters for you guys. The only problem is most of them will have to lose early. That opens the draw for other players. It's an opportunity for other guys to rise in the rankings. But it’s good for me to play those guys early. I look forward to it."
Federer had to turn back the clock to 2004 to recall a comparable draw. That was the year he topped Marat Safin in the Australian Open final, only to face the future Hall of Famer weeks later in the opening round in Dubai. How did he respond? He went on to win the title, of course.
