Lleyton Hewitt's new toe
Am I the only one that didn't realize that Hewitt has had his toe essentially made bionic and fused? Apparently he is pain-free, though, for the first time in a long time, and committed to making a run. I think he's got the ambition to be at least a spoiler, while he feels good.

Bionic man?

Edit: Where are the actual sources? No information regarding the toe.

Well he's down 2-1 and two breaks in the fourth set against Dustin Brown, so chances are his run ends at the 2R. I must say, while it is impressive to beat Stanislas Wawrinka he did so in a style somewhat reminiscent of Ferrero - niggling away, letting his opponent lose. I just don't think one can go very deep with that approach.

In other words, I think at best Hewitt is a #30-40 player now, which is a lot better than he's been, but I don't see him as a true top 20 player anymore.

Match over.

while i do like your stats and stuff, it is a little far from what really happened. Brown is one of the few who plays a style that the result is really on his racquet. You got to look at the way he plays, when your opponent commits to offense 100% of the time - that's right i don't see other players play this way not even Goran in his heyday. The match was never on Hewitt's racquet no matter what he did, Brown goes for winners on every chance; it was 72 winners and 22 unforced from his racquet. Was Hewitt pushing softies for Brown to put away? no, the guy had so much flair today that he dropped half volleys for winners time after time. Commentators even started talking not to return at his feet as it became too easy for him. Of course then he put away mid air volleys just as easy. This is one of those days where a guy had a Rosol day, only his game is even bigger and has better flair than Rosol's.

^ don't really see where your analysis contradicts any of what Dude said...

anyway, i guess the bionic toe thing won't catch on as a trend after all.
