Federer: a few more milestones along the way
I found this interesting little compilation of Fed stats and new records (grass, mainly,) in the Italian press. I hope you think it's fun and perhaps informative:

Fed is worrying more about which corporate gift to send Darcis than retirement right now.

It's at the point where the most noteworthy aspects of such lists are the records Federer hasn't broken. Yet.

I wonder if he'll ever catch some of Connors' outrageous records (total matches played/won, tournaments won)? Given how healthy Federer has always been, I don't see why not. It's more a matter of whether or not Roger wants to break them.

^ nah, i think total tournaments won is pretty much impossible, unless Fed starts playing Challengers and odd 250s exclusively. he's trailing Jimbo by 32. that'd be six more years of repeating the efforts of the '10-'12 span (and most likely, '13 will not fall into that). the tour's different now, and i think Jimbo's record will be safe until there's some dramatic change in the scenery (or until Rafa starts playing year-round clay challengers and stuff).

by comparison, trailing by "only" ~320 match wins - while that's also a lot, it's much easier to achieve, and if Fed were to stay healthy and play for 6 more years, it'd be almost a given he'd get that one (i don't think he'll hang around long enough, though). it's very telling, though, showing how winning titles in Jimbo's time meant less effort than it would today.

Mr. Steinbeck makes some excellent points above, which is par for the course (as they say). :-)

Virgil Cane is the name ...
