Windows 10, anybody?
It's been a nightmare so far. Sometimes I switch it on and get a blank screen for hours. Have to reboot, and pot luck if it loads. The sound arbitrarily disappears. During a film Cover

The layout is okay, but unless they fix the many glitches - and soon - I'm reverting back to Windows 7... No No

Sorry about your trouble with it but thanks for the warning. I was wondering if it was even worth the switch but sure doesn't sound like it now.

RE: Windows 10, anybody?
I switched to Windows 10 from Windows 8 a few days ago. I am not having much problems. But, I liked the Windows 8 set up much better (not sure, how much of my feeling is due to familiarity and how much is objective).

It's good you're not having difficulties, GSM, but I'd advise caution to anybody getting it: wait until the glitches are sorted. It feels like we're the guinea pigs. And any time I feel that I'm in the clear with it, something happens. For example, the sound went when I watched Netflix. It gave an error code and said it's related to Silverlight. Turns out Silverlight just vanished, so I reinstalled it.

And the computer went blank on the restart. I put a query on Microsofts tech site, and it seems like a fairly common problem.

I agree with GSM (but don't tell anyone Snicker) that the layout is something to get used to, but the one I was used to already was okay for me. The Start button action on this seems convoluted, and where it used to be straight forward to find programs, the control panel, etc, I'm using their search function instead. Like GSM says, this might be an issue of familiarity. The DVD player only played films at a quarter the screen size, until they gave some update which I installed and fixed it.

I'm tempted to go back to windows 7, just about to turn it on and see if the hour I wasted last night trying to get sound again was ultimately successful... Cover

Unless you are someone who adjusts easily to new technology, I would recommend going from Win 7 to Win 8 first. The look and feel of Win 8 is completely different from Win 7 (especially if you have a touchscreen). The learning curve between Win 8 and Win 10 is relatively small because 10 is built on the same basic framework.

RE: Windows 10, anybody?
The tech stuff regarding different layouts isn't a problem, but here I am at 7.22pm, home an hour, and facing a black screen again. This morning, it uninstalled Firefox. I ran virus scans and malware scans which came up as okay, but such was my confusion and frustration. I tried to download Google chrome because I've long been dissatisfied with Mozilla, and it wouldn't let me.

All this since I upgraded to Windows 10. In the link I provided above, you can see that others are also facing the black screen. It's a booting issue, plus more. When this thing finally gets going, I think I'll cut my losses and restore to windows 7.

If it'll let me! Lay Down Laughing

What your describing sounds a lot like what happened when they first released Windows Vista. It was a P.O.S. They tried to push some updates but it didn't help much and they eventually abandoned it altogether for Win 7.

I wouldn't upgrade to Win 10 on a pc that I cared about. For instance, I have a pc here that I could use to test the upgrade with. I won't upgrade my primary pc until they've released a few updates to fix the initial bugs. That way if you need to rollback, you're not completely out of commission.

I'm a sucker for this stuff. I think it hibernated in start up, because I shut the laptop on the black screen, let it settle, and when I opened it, it started!

So then I went to restore to windows 7 (which I can do up to a month after the upgrade to 10) and I saw they had updates to cure some glitches. So I'm going to give them a try. Last chance saloon, baby!
