Question When will Serena retire?
Controversial subject since she is #1 right now!

But she is 31!!

It's a poll, just for fun.
Don't take seriously!

2016 Olympics Year! I think as long as she maintains her health she will continue to play. If she can continue winning, why not play?

2016 possibly but hopefully she'll play as long as she's a force at all the majors. It depends how motivated she remains in trying to up her slam total, injuries, her serve staying consistently strong.

Can't see her making 2016. I reckon she's got this year and next and once she can no longer win slams she'll go, so...2015.

Was thinking that also. Maybe 2015 and then return to play the Olympics. Fed may well do the same.

Serena could feasibly play doubles for years to come after retiring from singles if she wanted to. Look what a dominant force Navratilova remained for years in doubles.

Although the majors are without doubt her priority I think she's also trying to improve more on her other career stats such as weeks at number one, total tournaments won, etc. I know that people always try to minimize the importance of anything other than slams, but everything other than exhos count. I don't think that history will judge her any differently based on her slam count. Winning one or two more or less than Evert or Navratilova still puts her in the same tier of greatness. It's much more likely that Serena winning 'only' half or one third of the total tournaments won by other GOAT contenders will be used against her in the future. But if she keeps adding to her total for the next couple of years it will become less of an issue.

Mind you, I'm one of those people that doesn't believe in a single GOAT and for me Serena has already earned her place up there on Mount Olympus with the other tier one all time greats. But if I was inclined to argue that Court, Evert, Navratilova or Graf were greater that would be my "line of attack," so to speak.

Serena is so strong, barring injury she will go on until her body says no.I think she will retire at 36yrs...she is going to make history as the oldest player in top five five years from now...

Oh Nehmeth, don't stoop to that level. No one is saying they wish Nole would lose interest, get married, retire, etc.

As long as she is a factor in majors, she will continue to play. I would love for her to make it to Rio, winning her fourth doubles gold with her sister.

I think she's keep going for singles through the next Olypmics year. I personally hope she'll play doubles for a long time. Maybe not so crazy-long as Navratilova, but I think she could feature in doubles and even mixed for a lot of years.

I voted 2015 in singles and then she'll concentrate about doubles and be playing in the Olympics with Venus - hope she will Smile

I can't see Serena retiring until she feels she is no longer a contender. She wants the numbers. She seems content to keep on playing.

RE: When will Serena retire?
I think Serena basically put the mark herself at 2016. I don't think Serena wants to play "as long as she's a contender" at majors. She has always had extensive interests outside tennis, and these have at times taken her outside the tennis world for very long stretches. I don't think she's the kind of tour girl who can't live without tennis. She will and I imagine cant wait to pursue her other interests.

why retire when you are at the height of you power , bagel top five players at will and make good money in the process.

Nobody's saying today. But, like it or not, she will retire someday. It was just a question. And to talk about it is not outside of normal. She's over 30.

Not before the Olympics. She wants to play and in order to compete there, she needs to be in playing form. It may depends on where her slam count and other achievements are by 2016. I say she'll give it another year after that. It's just hard to imagine someone ranked #1 and in great psychical shape to retire any time soon.
