Almagro tight like a drum, about to lose his 2-0 lead, you have to admire Tommy yet again and the french audience is fully behind him

Tommy "The Comeback Kid" Robredo is doing it again. Going to a 5th set after losing the first two sets to Almagro.

What a wonderful journey for Tommy Robredo, from 471 to match his best at RG , 4th times QF.
3 times in a row, from 0-2 to march through

Tommy, well done old man...

Of course there is something to be said about Magro's incompetence as well...Dude just loses it when it matters.

TRob will put up more a fight and give a better effort against Ferrer than Nico would.

Agreed. Though he should be exhausted by now he looks surprisingly fresh. Hope he does well.

Remarkable effort from Robredo. 3rd straight match coming back from 0-2 deficit. Must be some sort of a record.

The 2 Tommys (Robredo & Haas) are the story of the a lacklustre tournament so far.

I saw one too many times Almagro losing it mentally. and I am thrilled that Tommy can see one more round, even if his run, will end. At this point , it does not matter as much that he will lose most likely to Ferrer, rather the fact that he came out of nowhere to be the story of this championship so far.

Not just them, so far the main theme of this RG has been kind of "back to the future" with Hanescu, Davydenko, Feli Lopez and especially Haas, Robredo, Monfils, Youzhny, Troicki and Simon making deep runs out of nowhere. I don't think they've been on anybody's radar heading into the clay season. This Slam feels like being back to the days of 2007-2009. It's also a weird feeling going into the 2nd week withouth the prospect of having Murray, Del Potro and Berdych in the later rounds.

Some nice performances from the "mid-carders" Stan, Jerzy, Gasquet, Kohls, Isner, Querrey, Nishikori and Anderson too. Ultimately I wouldn't call it a lacklustre tournament, rather a special one in many terms. At the end it comes down to Djokovic, Nadal, Fed, Ferrer and Tsonga. One of them will take home the trophy but that was always going to be the case after Berdych had gone out. Anyway, the 2nd week should be fun. Nadal is playing some of the worst tennis I've ever seen from him, so the prospect of having a new RG champion is there. For neutral fans like me, that's as exciting as it gets these days.

Fed wins 6 games in a row to go up 2-0. I doubt Simon goes away though...

Congrats to Roger and also a big applause for Simon. Rome was an anomaly. If Simon is feeling good, he will always trouble Roger. Why? same reason Murray was beating Roger even when he was a pup without any solid weapons except his speed: Getting balls back, deep, and making you hit one more shot. Roger just does not like that.

I hope he steps it up against JWT.

Pretty exciting match there - just caught the last game. As I said in the wrong thread (Day 7), that's the best I've seen Federer serve in awhile. If he has that weapon working he won't be easy to beat for anyone, even Rafa or Novak.

On a different note, I'm starting to think this is the year Novak takes Rafa out. Rafa seems to lose a set in every match; while that isn't a big deal for normal mortals, for Rafa at Roland-Garros it means something's off and if anyone is going to exploit that its Novak.

Let's just hope its Tsonga or Federer in the Final as Novak vs. Ferrer would likely be quick and boring.

Hopefully this reduces the noise about Federer's determination. You just can't rate a champions heart and mental.

Simon played a great match, he just hit a wall in the fifth set. Ultimately, Roger just wanted it a little more.

Great match. Only a little less good than the Monfils R1 one.
