F1 and Motorsports thread
I have been a big fan of F1 and I think we need to have a thread of motorsports Smile

Right now the biggest bombshell is Kimi going to Ferrari in 2014

I used to be a massive F1 fan but some rule changes have reduced my interest. And Williams and McLaren struggling doesn't help.

Would be quite hilarious if Kimi outperformed Alonso as Kimi was paid so much to give his seat to Alonso for 2010.

Depends really if you are a Vettel fan or not . I enjoyed these past 4 seasons and next season promises to be even more exciting as you dont know who will succeed .

I liked those tyres since we got to see some overtaking and the faster vars were favoured . I used to find F1 boring when there used to be Truilli trains in so many races that it penalised drivers for qualyfying behind him and gave an advantage to those ahead remember

I haven't followed F1 for years. I used to watch it in the Senna/Prost/Mansell years and then when Schumacher first came on the scene.

It's got a big fan base though.

Yeah Those years you watched are considered to be the golden years of Formula 1 . Too bad I wasnt alive to have seen those periods and have to follow what is currently going on . Its still fun

One good thing is even if the on track stuff might be boring in a few races , the off track entertainment more than makes up for it . Its the only sport where team mates can be bitter enemies Wink

Damon Hill-Schumacher years were pretty much when I last watched F1 as well...lost interest after a while, gained it back when they brought the race to my hometown, Istanbul...now, I watch it if I catch it...I got my father into it though and he watched it religiously until the day he passed last year.

I don't anymore have too much interest in this season. Vettel seems to almost have the title in his bag. And he's so dominant that the races aren't too exciting.

But I have some interest in 2014 because of the new technical regulations. Hopefully some midfield team can make the most of the new regs and can leap to top like Brawn GP and Red Bull did in 2009 when there were big regulation changes last time.

Schumi in critical condition after skiing accident. They had operated on his brain the extent of damage is not known. Hopefully he pulls through, intact.

RE: F1 and Motorsports thread
Saw an article today that Schumacher may be in a vegetative state for the rest of his life. Really hope that's not the case.

In other F1 news, there will be double points for the last race next season. That is the most absurd rule change I have ever seen in sport.

They say its to stop Vettel winning all the time. Now I agree with the sentiment as much as anyone (don't like him very much) but this cannot be the solution. In fact, it will probably end up with Vettel winning next season because of the rule.

What they should do is go back to the F1 of a decade or so ago, which was free market racing with less technical and financial regulations. You could use any tyres and do as much testing and spending as you wanted. Don't like the sanitized version.

And if one guy wins all the time, its the nature of sport at times.

I heard on the radio driving to work this morning , about Schumi's state. Very sad. All you can do is hope at this point.
As for the rule change, it is not necessary at all.

So tragic that while vacationing and skiing he suffers this kind of accident, something that never happened to him in the dangerous sport of F1 racing. So sad.

Virgil Cane is the name ...

Real sad end for him if he is in a vegetative state Cry

Raced at a time when motorsports had no safety and had to happen after he retired

Could F1/Motorsports carry it's own forum on these boards?

RE: F1 and Motorsports thread
My motorsports interest is switching more to endurance racing, I don't anymore enjoy F1 the way I used to.

Watched Le Mans 24h in the weekend. A very exciting race. The #7 Toyota lead the race from start until over half of the race before it had to retire. Audi that had dominated the race in last years had a difficult weekend but after that Toyota's retirement, they found themselves in a one-two lead with the #2 and #1 cars. Both of these had to get their turbos changed, though, and they fell behind the #20 car of Porsche that made their return to Le Mans after over ten years. Later #2 Audi passed the Porsche during pit stops and eventually that Porsche had to retire. So Audi took a one-two win with their #2 and #1 cars.

Also the fight for the GTE Pro class win was very exciting, lots of wheel-to-wheel racing.
